Book Reviews of OliviaBook Review: Our favourite! Summary: 5 Stars
"This is Olivia. She is good at lots of things. She is very good at wearing people out."This is a book that EVERYBODY should read, but especially if you have a little girl. Olivia is a rather sophisticated little pig who jumps, and runs, and bakes cakes, and dances and sings ("40 Very Loud Songs"), terrorizes her little brother, Ian, tries on every garment in her closet (including a pair of mummy's pantyhose), makes exceptional sandcastles at the beach, recreates a Jackson Pollock painting on the living room wall ("Uh oh... Time out!") and who (eventually) goes to sleep. Don't miss this one. Our favourite book. I admit that I bought it because I liked it, but my 3-year old can't get enough of it!
Book Review: Yes, Virginia- It is True, Olivia is a Pig... Summary: 5 Stars
Olivia, Olivia, Olivia, my daughter-in-law's requests for books for my dear granddaughter. Ian Falconer vividly portrays Olivia as one of those pigs, um..er.. you would like to know. She is smart, creative,(draws on her walls as well as any unknown painter could), and articulate- she addresses her mother in full sentences and seems to know without a beat the questions her dear mother will ask. Olivia is without a doubt the best darn pig this side of the Mississippi. The pictures in Olivia are billiant- Olivia favors the color red. Olivia has it all, a storyline that will hook the mom and dad as well as the child, large print, easy to read, and an end to the story that invites another book to come..
Book Review: See the World through Olivia's Eyes and you'll see it all. Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot say enough about this book. My duaghter is 5 and loves to read 'Olivia'. The illustrations are simple yet wonderfully appealing to young and old. Olivia is inspiring to youngsters with her view of the world and her bold approach to each day. My duaghter has been to no less than 10 birthday parties over the past year and she routinely wants to buy her friends the 'Olivia' books. I consider that to be my daughter's version of a book review as it speaks directly to the appeal of this book. I would recommend it to any parent with a child between the ages 3 1/2 and 7. I would say the same for 'Olivia Saves the Circus'. My daughter and I both hope there are more 'Olivia' books to come.
Book Review: You'll recognize her. Summary: 5 Stars
OK, OK, I confess. I only bought the book because my almost-five-year-old is called Olivia and like most kids her age she loves to see her name in print. But she and I sat and laughed like morons all afternoon and read the book about a dozen times in one sitting. Anyone who has one of these little creatures (kids I mean, not pigs) will recognize something of their own in Ian Falconer's charming text and wonderfully expressive drawings. From lugging the cat around the house by the armpits to negotiating like a hard-nosed trial lawyer over the number of books at bed time, Olivia is as real a kid as yours and mine. Our family can't wait for the next in what I hope will be a long series.
Book Review: An heirloom for your grandchildren Summary: 5 Stars
This book is gorgeous. I read this story to my little boy constantly. Given that he is only 4 months old I've had to do a bit of soul searching and admit to myself that it's really me who's hooked on the story of Olivia the charismatic pig. Olivia lives with her mother, her father, her brother, her dog Perry and Edwin, the cat. Every page gives you an insight into the little pig's personality and every page is guaranteed to make you laugh. This book has become my number one "new arrival" present. I'm sure that if you want to give someone an heirloom this would be a good place to start. Grab yourself an early edition while you can!
