Book Review: The Little One Enjoys It...Me, Not So Much
Summary: 3 Stars
My 1 yr old son enjoys having this read to him; however, my tongue doesn't. I find this book miserable to read. Unlike other books which tend to have more rhyme and rhythm, this one just has waaaaaaay too many adjectives and I find myself stumbling over the long sentences. Sometimes I even leave a few words out!
You may argue that it's the message that really counts (albiet this book tends to be a little mushy about it), but at the end of day, after having had my patience tried more times than I'd like to think, having to plow through this book is the last thing I want to do.
The illustrations are wonderful and my son DOES enjoy the book, and so I give it three stars for that.
Book Review: Great book for Birthday tradition

I received this book for the birth of my first son almost 5 years ago. It was put on the shelf until his first birthday...when I read it to him at bedtime for the first time. I was moved to tears. He was captivated by the pictures as well. We have read it to him at bedime on every birthday and it has become an important family tradition. We started the tradition with our younger son as well. I look forward to it every year. My son loved it so much by the time he was 3 years old that he started requesting it all the time. And tonight, my youngest second birthday, he sat and stared at the beautiful pages without one squirm (which is unheard of around here). As Pagans, my husband and I have a hard time finding age-appropriate books for our son that reflect our faith without being dogmatic or corny. When we ran across 'On the Day You Were Born," we knew we had a winner! It expresses the marvel of life that we want to emphasise, the connection of all things under the Divine and the belief that we are all a part of something immense and wondrous. But the real triumph is that it does these things in a way so subtle, beautiful and fundamental that it will be of value to people of ANY faith. It invites quiet and deep appreciation for the awesome power that is all around us, no matter what name we give it.
Book Review: Read this book!

As a veteran teacher of 29 years, I've read hundreds of books to students and my own children, grandchildre, nieces and nephews. On the Day You Were Born is the book I reach for first when I'm planning a special present. To make the book even more precious, I've had students write special notes to the new baby (for colleagues), or colleagues write welcomes to my granddaughters on the inside cover of the book. Talk about a meaningful gift! My passion is geography, and I can't think of a better book to give to children because it details so many important events in our life in a delightful way.Book Review: One of the best baby gifts we received

My wife and I read to our baby daughter every night before we put her to bed. She loves to hear our voices. This book has become one of our favorites. The illustration is childlike and colorful, but has a sophisticated theme. The writing is beautiful with a warm, sweet message. The prose is rhythmic and natural. It is very different from many children's books.
We received this book as a gift at a baby shower for my wife. Guests were asked to bring a favorite book from their childhood. This was a perfect baby shower gift. Highly recommended.
