Book Reviews of One Fifth Avenue

Book Review: Very Boring and slow
Summary: 1 Stars

I lately have come to watch Sex and the City. The characters are enjoyable and very human and I enjoyed each characters quirks and came to know them. With that said.........I wish I could say the same for this book. I am pushing myself to finish it since I hate to leave a book unread. I keep thinking I am finally going to get the the meat of the book. Well, maybe I am judging it too quickly, but I'm almost 2/3's of the way through and have not come to care for any of the characters. Sorry, Ms. Bushnell, but this is dreadful! It's a bore!!

Book Review: Simply dreadful!
Summary: 1 Stars

It is really unfortunate that one must give at least one star in order to leave a review. At best, One Fifth Avenue is a half-star book.

Too many dull characters, with some of the most ridiculous names ever. I lost interest in them long before there was any evidence of plot development. The sex was more graphic than it needed to be, but that wasn't really surprising. Lola had

A couple of characters suffered needlessly, a couple more got just what they deserved, but in the end, I just didn't care.

Book Review: Lives of the glamorous?
Summary: 4 Stars

Bushnell is a sharp observer of the NY elite, as witnessed through her previous books and this one is no different. Focusing on the residents of one of the most glamorous buildings in the city, it reads more like a character study of the various socialites and social climbers than a unified story. However, if you are someone who is fascinated with the moneyed (and those who make a living being fascinated with the moneyed), this is the book for you. A little boring at times, but overall a very good peek into a rarified world.

Book Review: Great Read at the End of the Day
Summary: 5 Stars

I so enjoyed this book -- and spent hours with it at the end of long work days, just tucking into the world of these incredibly detailed characters. I'm glad I don't live in the one fifth building, that's for sure, but it was a pleasure escaping into the wonder of Manhattan's rich society for two weeks' worth of evenings. A bit darker than Sex and the City, but the tone pays off and the environment Candace Bushnell creates is nearly incredible -- an only in New York story if there ever was one...

Book Review: Shallow, Shallow, and More Shallowness
Summary: 1 Stars

Well where should we start? The soap opera plot, the shallow characters, or the lack of emotion. The book is almost like a catalog of how to be mean, conniving, and shallow. The book is like a bad soap that you are stuck watching and hoping at one point becomes interesting, but "NO" not here! The Characters are bunch of rich and emotionless people (bithces might be a better word), but wait you learn something important in the book and that is to, *stay away from One Fifth Avenue building*!
