Book Reviews of One-Skein WondersBook Review: Excellent book for the busy knitter! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic book for the busy person who likes to knit, whether you can't commit to a long project or if you just need to have ideas for quick gifts you can whip up. There is a ton of variety in the patterns. Most are knit, but a few are crochet. I particularly like that the book is organized by weight of yarn, so you can raid your stash for that beautiful skein you bought and can't remember what you wanted to do with it, and you can find a pattern really easily. I'd highly recommend this book and I plan to buy the luxury one-skein wonders, too.
Book Review: Useful addition to my library Summary: 3 Stars
I added this book to my library on a whim and I don't regret it. Small projects is about my speed at the moment with 3 young kids and little time. Nothing in this book absolutely leaps off the page at me, but at the same time there are lots of things in here that I will make to use up wool from my stash. It also doesn't have the most inviting layout but it is adequate and colour photos are available, just not next to the actual patterns.
So - to sum it up - this book is a good-of-the-road addition to my knitting collection.
Book Review: One Skein is wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent project book for seasoned knitters. By "seasoned" I mean that the person has done a few nice projects and therefor has stash of excellent left over yarn. The book is organized by yarn weight, i.e. lace weight to chunky weight, so it's easy to find a good way to use up that lovely extra yarn. The projects themselves, though are worthy of new yarn, as they are beautifully designed and excellently photographed. I found myself wanting to make baby sweaters even though I have no babies in my family. What great inspiration!
Book Review: Skip this Book Summary: 2 Stars
This is a book of many ugly projects with an occasional gem that makes you reevaluate your original evaluation -until you get to the next stupid item.
The few things possibly worth making are often a cheat. The one skein shawl is from a skein of 1,200 yards, for example. You can find a lot of better shawl patterns utilizing 1,200 yards. The occasional nice hat or scarf patterns do not justify buying this book.
I considered giving it away as a gift but don't want to insult my knitting friends.
Book Review: Great book to use up your stash! Summary: 5 Stars
I think this book is a great way for experienced beginners to use up their stash of yarn. Many of us who knit have a skein or two laying around that we want to do something with, but can never find a decent pattern to use. I love how the patterns are organized by yarn weight, which makes it easy to find something to do with that stray skein of yarn. This might not be a great book for beginning knitters just starting out, but for the experienced beginner and beyond it's a great resource with lots of variety.
