Book Review: Our Global Environment
Summary: 3 Stars
Overall a good read. It is a good overview of the myriad areas of the field. An easy read with some useful, interesting sidebars which look at the issues more in-depth.
However, some of the text seemed unnecessarily ethnocentric. In places, such as the population chapter, it felt condescending to peoples of other nations and their accompanying cultures and traditions. Furthermore, in one graph it depicted North America as being comprised solely of Canada and the U.S., excluding Mexico and all of Central America. Implicit is that the term "America" is reserved for "proper," "white" Anglophile people. Overall a good book, but the ethnocentrism left a bad taste in my mouth.
