Book Reviews of Out Of Print - Treat Your Own Neck 4th EdBook Review: Cured myself Summary: 5 Stars
I had neck pain along with tingling radiating down my arm to my index finger. Having had extensive experience with clients who needed physical therapy, I was fairly certain I had a cervical disk bulge/pinched nerve. I knew the routine with orthos and physical therapists and wanted to avoid spending both the time on office visits and the money, if at all possible. I stopped my usual exercise routines to give myself time to heal, took anti-inflammatories for a couple of weeks, bought this book and followed it religiously, and purchased an arc4life cervical traction pillow. In a matter of a few weeks, the problem was completely resolved and has not returned several months later. I have absolutely no pain and no restriction of movement. It is vital that you not do more harm than good by overdoing and/or improperly doing the exercises. Of course, if I hadn't seen improvement, I would have consulted a doctor. (BTW, I still sleep on the pillow and highly recommend it. It gets you past that unhappy routine of backsliding in the healing process due to sleeping wrong on the injury. It can be uncomfortable at first, so ease into using it as recommended. It literally provides light traction to the cervical spine when lying on your back and, if you move to the proper location on the pillow, provides excellent support while sleeping on either side.)
Book Review: Can a 45 Page Book be Worth $10.00? Summary: 5 Stars
The answer to the title question is: YES! YES! YES! "treat your own neck" is a great example. In fact, as a lay reader, this little book gave me more information than I expected. I would gladly have paid Amazon.com $10.00 for just the exercises described and illustrated in the book. But knowing more about the why's is also helpful - and getting all this information in condensed form is best for an old guy like me.
I broke both my neck and compressed vertebrae in my back when I was a very young man. I just turned seventy one a few days ago. As you can imagine, these old injuries have been acting up with increasing severity over the years. The exercises in this book have already helped me enough to give me hope for substantial improvement - maybe nearly complete pain control for my neck pain.
My neck pain has always been worse than my back pain. But, after seeing the "treat your own neck" book, I plan to also order the other book, "treat your own back."
Special thanks to the author, Robin McKenzie. I'm sure you will make a mint with your writings. You have a special knack for bringing together and organizing the important factors in neck pain relief. I expect to write the same things about your other book, "treat your own back."
Book Review: The excercises really worked Summary: 5 Stars
Recently I have been experiencing neck issues due to long hours in front of a computer screen for many many years. I ran across this book when things got so bad I was getting dizzy from subluxared cervical vertebrea. I bought this book in combination with a traction type device purchase based on the reviews and thinking I had nothing to lose. After carefully reading the book and doing some of the excercises I started getting relief. So much so I looked up a Mckenzie Certified Physical Therapist - I was surpised to know the only one in my state works in my home town - so I scheduled some appointments with him as well asking for direction based on the McKenzie philosophy.
The excercises do relieve the issue in a way that Chiropractic does not. I also find regular practice of a simple set of yoga postures really helps to.
All in all, I still have neck problem with some cervical degeneration but when I consistently take breaks and do some of the mckenzie exercises. This little book was quite valuable in directing me to relief.
Book Review: Very pleased with this purchase Summary: 5 Stars
I have a reverse curve in my neck and have suffered migraine headaches for 25 years. I have gone to a chiropractor on and off throughout the years which has always helped in the past. This past year I have experienced a significant increase in the number of migraines I suffer each month and therefore have looked for additional therapies (anything but drugs which have been suggested many times by my pcp). I stumbled across this book and spoke to my Physical Therapist and Chiropractor about it and they both thought that the postures you take during the exercises are radical but if done properly and slowly they can help. I believe that the exercises in this book have help with the alignment of my cervical spine. I have also purchased (on line) a cervical pillow with traction. I believe that between the exercises, the education regarding posture and the cervical pillow I am on the road to recovery (1 month migraine free). Hope this helps.
Book Review: Simple & Easy Steps to solving Neck Pain Summary: 5 Stars
I had this book referred to me by my Physiotherapist. Wow! Am I glad I bought it.
Before reading the book I had constant neck, shoulder and arm pains for at least 18 months.
After completing the simple stretching exercises as described in the book my pain virtually ceased within a day or two.
I continued with the basic exercises - that are so easy it is unbelievable - for two weeks. My arm, shoulder and neck pain were fixed with the first few days and the following days were merely to consolidate what I had achieved.
It has been three weeks now and all pain has disappeared and not come back. I continue with the exercises and remain pain free - totally!
The best money I have spent!
