Book Reviews of Out Of Print - Treat Your Own Neck 4th EdBook Review: My best purchase ever Summary: 5 Stars
I am a 55 year old computer programmer diagnosed for the past 10 years with cervical spondylosis, which produces frequent and prolonged headaches. In my case, the medical community has been focused only on diagnosis (MRIs) and treatment (NSAIDs and muscle relaxants), not prevention. Over the years I have checked medical web sites for information, but just recently stumbled upon this book at Amazon. By following the common sense advice and exercises described by Dr. McKenzie, I am now headache and medication free. (My only advice is to go easy on the exercises when starting.) This tiny book is a miracle of Biblical proportions.
Book Review: Very Helpful Summary: 5 Stars
I bought McKenzie's back book about 15 years ago, and it helped me so much. Now that I'm having neck problems, and my DO nor my PT seem to help, I gave this a try. Within a few days I was much better. The exercises are similar, but much better explained in the book than my PT could describe. And I feel vindicated that my neck issues were causing my tension headaches, as described in the book. I wish that I had bought this book 2.5 years ago, when the neck probelms started. I have been able to centralize the pain and feel it diminishing. I highly recommend this neck book, and the back book, "Treat Your Own Back".
Book Review: One Exercise Was Helpful - The Others Made My Neck Worse Summary: 2 Stars
I have had a sore neck on one side for several months now and go to physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture for the last three months to try and heal it. I bought this book hoping it would help. This book has a few simple exercises to treat your own neck. I found one of the exercises (The Lying Down Neck Flexion) to be helpful for me to relieve the pain, but the others (Neck Extension, Sideways & Twist) caused more pain and really hurt my neck. My physiotherapist said that the information in this book is generic and doesn't necessarily heal all neck pain...which was the case for me as I still have the neck pain.
Book Review: This book is great!!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is great!!! IMPORTANT: You have to follow-through on the directions to benefit. The author tells you to repeat the excercises 10 times each, 10 times a day until the pain stops. My neck has been bothering me for over 2 years. I bought the book a year ago. The first time I did the exercises, I did them erratically and nothing happened. After experiencing intense neck pain these past few months, I tried it again. I stayed home one day and did the exercises every hour as noted in the book. I also kept correcting my forward head posture and changed my pillow. The next day, the pain was gone!!!
Book Review: It saved my neck Summary: 5 Stars
I've had neck problems off and on for years, and have seen doctors off and on with mixed results. This little book (and it's an advantage in my opinion that it is only 46 pages long) has helped me confirm the cause which I pretty much already knew (poor posture)and it has done a wonderful job of explaining what good posture is and how to stick with it. The exercises shown in the book are life savers. You don't have to do all 7 exercises. You will eventually figure out which ones are helping your specific problem. I highly recommend it and am honored to give it the highest rating.
