Book Reviews of Outer Banks

Book Review: Gimme a Break
Summary: 1 Stars

How can the publisher call Kate and Fig friends? Kate was mean to Fig. She did not behave in a friendly manner at all. I think Kate was a stuck-up wench and a spoiled brat. But then, Fig was not much better. Siddons did not develop any of the characters well either. We lose Cecie for hundreds of pages, and then catch up on her whole post-college life in two sentences. I have read other Siddons books, and I must say, this one was deeply disappointing.

Book Review: One Of Her Best
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a great fan of Anne Rivers Siddons....and, this is my fav. among the bunch. It's full of many different layers, and brings the past and the present together, very nicely. The story of these four women is mingled together very well. I found the story very compelling and full of intrique. The mystery and suspense adds a great amount of interest for the end. I found myself wanting to peak at the end, before I got there.

Book Review: A masterpiece that grabs you and won't let go!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first Anne Rivers Siddons book I had read and in my opinion, it is the best one yet! The growth and eventual dissolvment of the girls friendships is great. You really can connect to all the characters. The way Kate is used by the ones she loved is very moving. I have read other books by Siddons and this one is by far my favorite yet. "Up Island" was quite good also.

Book Review: Another super read by Anne Rivers Siddons
Summary: 4 Stars

I wondered about this book at the outset because the first few chapters depressed me. But the author really pulls you in with characters that are interesting in and of themselves and moreso because of the realtionships between them. Her themes resonate with females generally, but she's also a beautiful, witty writer. The end of the book especially is riveting! This would be a great summer read.

Book Review: Do you love the Outer Banks?
Summary: 2 Stars

If you love the Outer Banks, don't read this book. I was very dissapointed. The story starts out pretty interesting, then it gets really shallow and the ending unfortunately is very tacky. It reminded me way too much of the "love/hate" booklets you can buy at a newspaper stand on the street. I do not recommend this book, I was amazed it made it on a Bestseller list at all.
