Book Reviews of Pat the Bunny (Touch and Feel Book)

Book Review: My son's absolute favorite book (he's 1 year old)
Summary: 5 Stars

My son got this book when he was 2 or 3 months old. We would read it to him occasionally as he was getting older. When he got to be about 6 months, he could do most of the things in the book (play peek-a-boo with Paul, pat the bunny, etc.). Now that he is a year, he does everything -- he waves to Paul & Judy, he puts his finger in the ring, smells the flowers, etc. He loves this book so much, the cover has come off and we have to purchase another.

The great thing about this book is that there is something fun for them to do on every page, and it grows with your child. The only drawback I found is that it's not super-durable if your child really loves it and reads it over and over and over and over... :-)

Book Review: A classic. My 7 month old niece loves it!
Summary: 5 Stars

While I agree the perfume smelling flowers are not the best smelling ever... who cares? This book is great for being interactive with young babies. I bought it for my 7 month old niece. She loves it! She caught on right away to patting the bunny, peekaboo with Paul and Daddy's scratchy face. In particular, I was impressed that the peekaboo cloth stays tight and she grabs onto it and pulls hard to get the peekaboo going.

Is it a slightly older book? yes. But I have not seen other books that are better for the stimulating the senses of a baby. She has books that I ask her where is the cat? where is the bunny? and she doesn't quite get thqat yet, but the touching and playing she does.

Book Review: attracts attention - a timeless classic
Summary: 5 Stars

This little book which I bought on impulse turned out to be the best of the activity books for my son, now 13 months old. He is easily distracted and this book (coupled with his father's additional stories about the bunny) helps him stay focused and stimulates imagination. It is also very helpful at the evening meals, when he is so fascinated that even the tiredness does not make him fuss over his cereal. He literally screams in delight whenever we take the book out.
The simple drawings, mild colors and especially soft fur of the bunny make this book an essential for every baby. I cannot recommend it strong enough. A classic, it will sure be a great gift for many generations of babies.

Book Review: This book can be very effective but is flawed.
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is a powerful introduction to enjoying books if presented by a loving reader who emphasizes its strong points and demonstrates care in handling a book. It is seriously flawed for any other than an Aryan child by the bright yellow hair and pink skin, though a good reader will avoid the child's noticing. I say this as one who presented it to a brown-skinned child as part of a prescribed program. The child absolutely loved all of it and wanted her mother to read it over and over- the ring, Daddy's scratchy face, the soft bunny, the mirror to see in. The choice and flow of events is charming, which is why the book has endured. Wish there were a less Caucasian version.

Book Review: A classic, perhaps a little dated
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm torn in reviewing this one - on the one hand, my son (9 mos) seems to love it, and quickly learned to pat the bunny, lift the cloth to play peek-a-boo, etc. So from the baby's standpoint, it's a winner. But looking at it from an adult perspective, I think the book is awfully old-fashioned (which may be part of the charm for some readers), the drawings aren't very engaging and the comb-binding is flimsy - I can't leave this book out with the board books, or he'll tear it apart. If you loved this book as a kid, by all means buy it and share it with your own kid. But in my opinion, it's not the most exciting, or even the best interactive, book out there.
