Book Review: Peek-a Who?
Summary: 5 Stars

We believe babies recognize some voices even before they are born, but in our earliest interactions with them we love to catch their eyes. "Peek-a Who?" by Nina Laden captures all the joy of this simple game with its mixture of familiarity and surprise. A hole cut in a leafy thicket picture on the board book's cover reveals an owl's eyes peering out setting up the rhyming question and answer begun by the title. Turn aside the cover to find the Owl saying, "Peek-a who?" Turn the page and on the left it says "Peek a" in large yellow type amidst a blue background. On the right is a black and white pattern with a center cutout revealing a matching pattern that invites turning to discover who?-a cow looking at you. The same "Peek a" can be seen through the cutout and "MOO! jumps out below in matching yellow on a purple background setting off the black and white of the cow on the right. Turn the page again to find a green typeface "Peek a" centers on a purple background on the left as the same green on the right has a pattern of black and white eyes matched through another cutout that draws us on to turn and find--a green ghost looking at you saying "Peek a BOO!". This well thought out and carefully designed book makes each part work together to the reader's enjoyment. The scale of the book is small but the type is large, the simulated woodcut illustrations are clear and simple with bold bright contrasting colors. The game's pattern is reinforced by familiar elements introducing surprising elements that become familiar. The whole works together to set up "Peek a " as an invitation to enjoy "reading" together.

Book Review: Great book for young children!
Summary: 5 Stars

As a grown up, I thought this book was a little silly and not much to it. However, my 10 month old went crazy over it. He "reads" all by himself. The last page is mirrored and he loves looking at himself. The pages have cut outs that make the book interactive for him. He brings the book to me to read over and over! He is now 14 months old and still loves this book.

We took it to the doctor's office today. I was reading to him in the waiting room and a group of children gathered to hear the book. Several of the children were older (3 and 4), they were trying to guess what was in the cut outs and guess the possible rhyming words. They were tickled pink at the mirror on the last page.

I would say that this book was a big hit with the kids so it must be a good book!

By the way, I had to read it again...

Book Review: My son smiles every time I take this book off the shelf!
Summary: 5 Stars

We LOVE this book! I bought it for my 10 month old son and every time we read it (daily) he gets a huge smile on his cute little face. If I try to stop on a page to talk about the animal that's on it, he hurries me to the end; he loves the little mirror on the last page :)

It's a super cute, super fun book to read during reading time and a fun way spend a little time with your child. It is particularly fun for the older baby and toddler who will appreciate the short, simple phrases and the "surprise" of the animal revealed on the next page. As you read you'll have fun discovering an owl, a cow, a "Boo" (ghost), a zoo full of animals and even a train as you turn each page. Very colorful illustrations and fun rhymes keep this well-made board book entertaining every time we take it off the shelf! I would highly recommend it!!

Book Review: Short but oh so sweet...perfect for my active 10 month old
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a very active 10 month old boy who does not like to sit still very often to read. When we read to him, he likes to try and rip the pages and flip the book over, so we often give him something else to play with while we read a book to him. Peek-a-WHO was recommended to me by a friend who said her baby absolutely loved the book, so I thought I'd check it out. I can't believe it...but my son LOVES this book. He always sits perfectly still, entranced with the book. He never fights to flip the book over, doesn't need to play with anything else, he just stares at each page intently and occasionally pokes his fingers through the holes. He can sit through the reading multiple times and he often picks this book up to play with on his own during the day. I wish it was longer, simply because he loves it so much.

Book Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a picky book person and I am always looking for a book for my kids. I read great reviews about it and so decided to get it. When I first received it my first thought was, that's it?? I was disappointed just looking through it. However, the first time I read it to my 12 month old he was sold!! He kept bringing this book to us handing it to us and whining because he wanted us to read it to him. 2 months later it's still our favorite....besides the SO Big! Elmo book in case you're looking for another. When I turn the pages he can read it to me. I say Peek-Aaa......... and he says "Boo", or "Moooo" I think this book is where he first started saying animal sounds although Moo is really the only animal sound in it.
