Book Review: Note the Misleading Cover Title
Summary: 3 Stars
This is a fine book, for sure.
However; it is, in fact, just a "part" of the book "Photo Icons" published by the same publisher in 2005.
That book is also available here:Photo Icons. The Story Behind the Pictures [Hardcover, Deluxe Edition](Taschen)
Seeing the "Vol. 2" on the title, I was quick to order this one as well since I liked the bigger 2005 book very much.
To my surprise, this is just a slightly smaller "replica" of the final part of the above book. Nothing more!
So, for owners of the former book, this volume offers absolutely nothing.
No new photographs, no new photographers and not even a single word added to the original text!
You can see the more informative subtitle "1928-1991" only on the inside of the book.
The bigger, original volume covers 1827-1991 (this is also on the inside).
I am surprised to see Taschen, a major publisher in this field, come up with such a misleading cover title for this subset.
Am I alone in expecting a "Volume Two" book to contain "additional" material?
The book, ignoring the above criticism for a moment, is really nice especially for its price.
But I do not have enough will to write a dedicated critique for it, as I feel like I was cheated; sorry.
