Book Review: Classic adventure thriller and a fun read!

The fifth in the Oregon Files series features Chairman Juan Cabrillo and his Corporation of mercenaries doing good around the world. This time, we start off with a Prologue in which a World War 2 German airplane is shot down over the North Sea and tries to come back to Norway to save itself. The only survivor finds - something.
Now we move on to modern times and The Oregon is out doing its thing to support the U.S. government by engaging in all those things that governments in the real world cannot do, but that make for very exciting stories, if they would only be true. Of course, those who follow this series know that The Oregon is a very special kind of spy ship and its crew is a very special kind of band who manage to get into all kinds of interesting scrapes and adventures and get out of them again after being beaten, bruised, mauled, and hurt in all kinds of ways, but still manage to right the wrongs of the world.
This story is no different. And, without giving away any of the secrets, I can tell you that this is a classic adventure tale in the mold and that all the elements that make these stories fun to read are in it. There are beautiful and vulnerable women being saved by our heroes, strong women who work for the Corporation who manage to beat the living snot out of the bad guys, several bad villains (including the obligatory psychopathic killer who gets his pleasure out of torturing people before killing them), futuristic weapons and situations that seem impossible to believe, but you root for the good guys anyway. And finally, a world encompassing plot that is about to unfold that our heroes manage to derail at almost the last possible moment.
This is the kind of book that you want to bring along on a beach vacation or some long flights as the writing and situations capture your attention right away and make you ignore your surroundings. On the other hand, it is quite easy to put it down when needed and pick right up again when you can as this is not serious reading that requires concentration. I certainly managed to enjoy it on my vacation and would recommend to all who like this sort of fiction to read it. Recommended.
