Book Reviews of Pleasure

Book Review: EJD...what were you thinking???
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a loyal EJD fan from way back. "Milk in My Coffee" being my favorite. The girls and I wait with a high degree of anticipation for the new releases of his books. This one left me with a big ?? I see that he is trying to branch out and do other types of writing, such as "Sleeping with Enemies" series which we absolutely loved. I am very disappointed. Jjust too much sex, the entire "story". We typically love the intimate storylines woven in (always tastefully scripted for us:-) This was just plain overkill. We will start checking these books out from the local library to save some bucks on some less than "pleasurable" reading. I truly hope EJD puts this type of storyline on the what not to write list and keep us coming back for more with characters that we relate to and care about...we miss you!

Book Review: On the Fence...
Summary: 3 Stars

I found Pleasure to be an interesting book to say the least. I found the beginning to be a bit boring, but once I got into the book it was entertaining. As I've said many times before, I love EJD's writing style, so that is what kept me so interested. The book had alot of steamy sex scenes which I really liked up until a certain point. Afterwards, it got a bit redundant. And IMO, the Kiki Sunshine character was too much. At that point forward, the sex was overkill.

The book's ending was also quite blah. The book had no real meaning, no depth, no real substance, and to be honest, I expected more. I wanted Nia to come to some sort of realization within herself and her life. This was probably my least favorite EJD novel, but I am still a loyal fan and will be reading future works of his.

Book Review: Pure Pleasure
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an EJD fan till the end. I loved this book. Ok, now see, I love Gideon and I didn't want to read a book without him, but I couldn't resist. I opened the book and started reading and read it all weekend long. It was so good that I told everyone I could find about it. I told the women at the nailshop, the men in the shoe store, the lady at the ticket counter at the theater, the chef at my favorite dinner spot and even the customer service lady on the phone for the cable company. Hey, we had to talk about something, so why not. Having an English degree, I admire and respect how Dickey ties in great literary figures. Carter did it in "Palace Council" with "Paradise Lost" and Anais as an alter ego is fantastic and perfect for this book. I love you EJD and I wish you happy writng.

Book Review: Oh My Goodness!
Summary: 1 Stars

EJD has put me to sleep yet again. I bought this book yesterday because I am a huge fan, but his last two books have done nothing for me. I've read three chapter and I can't take it anymore.

When I bought this book, I was looking for something along the lines of "Chasing Destiny" wherein it took off from the first chapter. I can't believe I've wasted my money, yet a second time on this author.

Although I've read the comments of the other two people, I can't agree with them on how this book is written. I don't even want to finish reading it, just as I did with "Sleeping with Enemies."

I apologize to all the over reviewers before me and after me, but I don't think that I will be supporting EJD for a very long time to come.

Book Review: Not so good read for a loyal EJD fan,
Summary: 1 Stars

As most of the other reviews state, this book is purely about sex. The sex scenes are, of course, extremely descriptive. Descriptive enough to make me a little uncomfortable at times just READING them! But nonetheless, I felt so unfulfilled after reading Pleasure. I have LOVED all his other novels, but truly there was NO storyline at all to this. You seriously would be better off just going down to your friendly neighborhood porn store and picking something out. I hope in his next book he gets back to what his fans really want from him: a great story with unforgettable characters, not an overdone porn where I hardly even remember the characters names and the storyline only existed to get us from sex scene to sex scene. Come on EJD, you're better than this!!!
