Book Reviews of Point of Impact

Book Review: OK
Summary: 3 Stars

In my opinion i felt like the first half of the book contained to much back story and not enough action, but once the action starts it does carry the story very well.

My only other criticism is that Bob the Nailer wasn't that interesting of a character. He didn't have any personal faults or things in his path that would have given him more depth.

I read the book with intention of going to see the movie but after reading the book the only thing i would want to see the movie for is to see what they added to make the book more interesting.

My personal favorite reocurring character in a book is Mitch Rapp who is a government operative that works in the middle east. I suggest you pick up one of his books if you would like non-stop action beginning to end and a character with a lot of depth.

Book Review: Simply, this story rocks.
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a keeper, the kind that you save and read again. I was going on a long international plane flight and needed some good reading material. I picked this book up, having never read any Stephen Hunter books, and hoped it'd keep me entertained. It did more than that. I had my nose planted firmly in this book and didn't come up for air until it was finished. I could not put it down. The protagonist Bob Lee Swagger, is an excellent character, heroic yet flawed. And smart. Very clever. This is characterization in an action/thriller book done right for a change. You can see Swagger as a real person, not just a 2 dimensional cardboard commando. Hooray for Hunter. If you haven't read "Time to Kill", another Bob Lee Swagger novel, GET IT NOW! My only question is: When's the movie coming out?!

Book Review: Wow!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was my intro to the world of Stephen Hunter, and made me an instant fan. I purchased "Point of Impact" and read it in 2 days while on vacation. Couldn't wait to get the other three novels in the Bob Lee Swagger "universe". Hunter's characters read like real people. His heroes suffer from alcoholism, adultry, and other real life problems that only the "bad guys" in writers like Tom Clancy's works have to deal with. They all have a sense of "duty" that doesn't necessarily run through their whole lives. They usually are dedicated to their their jobs, but have problems fulfilling their duties at home, though they love their families dearly. This is very realistic in my experience. I recommend this novel and its companions to anyone who likes a good read.

Book Review: Overall Excellent Book
Summary: 5 Stars

Great book, this was my introduction to the author and I have sense read a number of his other books. I do find that this series is his best. There is just something about the main character that you really get to like. It is not that he is a great human, he just has a human quality that comes through. I think we get to know him becuase the author does such a good job of dropping into the story bits of the lead characters life and thoughts so you really come away with a strong sense of the man. I love the level of detail and the story that takes in all the twists and really makes it work. This is a book for a reader that wants to become part of the story and pay attention, it is not the light cookie cuter books like Jack Higgins et all. This book is a very good action book that is well written.

Book Review: I read several bad books before...
Summary: 5 Stars

I read several bad books before this one and I must say that I'm happy I did. They helped me truly appreciate the well written action, twists and suspense of this story. In this book Bob the Nailer is better at getting out of hopeless situations than James Bond, but without all the techtoys.

At least 3 times I thought he was 'done' but I knew because of the number of pages left that more was to come and I had to read for another 5, err...10, yikes...30, oh man...60 minutes - before forcing myself to put down the book and go to bed.

Point of Impact has lots of suspense, intrigue, and action, and is entertaining enough that the reader doesn't get hung up on the little "what ifs" that can easily spoil an action hero thriller like this. It is a highly enjoyable easy read.
