Book Reviews of Pop Goes the WeaselBook Review: TERRIFIC AUTHOR BUT A DISAPPOINTING BOOK! Summary: 2 Stars
Anyone who has read James Patterson's earlier books knows he is a fantastic author, so what happened here? It seems that Mr. Patterson was in a terrific rush to give us something new and wrote this in a frantic rush to satisfy our craving for a new book. The result was disappointing. Few children, no matter how exceptionally brilliant and mature for their years, think and speak like Alex's daughter. The family scenarios, and the entire book for that matter, reminded me of little more than an over-dramatic soap opera. From the abduction of Christine to the final ending, the complete episode was just too weak, far-fetched and lacked substance. Mr. Patterson is a fantastic author. Anyone who has read his earlier books, "Along Came a Spider," "Jack and Jill," and "Kiss the Girls," for example, knows how talented he truly is, but this book showed very little of the creative writing of the James Patterson we have come to know and love.
Book Review: i've decided i love alex cross Summary: 5 Stars
i've read some a few james patterson novels, and awhile ago i read cat&mouse as my first alex cross novel, which i really enjoyed. i randomly bought pop goes the weasel and i'm pleased with the amount of time patterson spends on getting a reader not aquainted with the characters, well aquainted with them. very suspenseful thriller, interesting, and actually a page turner, no matter how cliche that sounds. since this is the second ever alex cross novel i've ever read i was surprised that patterson is not afraid to sacrifice main characters, even though apparently his wife was killed in an earlier novel. that's part of what makes patterson interesting, anyone can go, bar cross of course, which isnt a formula generally used by authors. recently i ventured out and bought a thriller by someone else, and no matter the different reviews that say how patterson's more recent books are failing, other authors still don't hold a candle to him on his worst day. seriously
Book Review: Absolutely awful! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this book to review for an encyclopedia of best selling fiction, but I'm not sure I can do that because the book is so uniformly terrible. Alex Cross is a pretty decent character in that Patterson tries to make him a believable human being, but he is at a complete loss in dealing with Shafer who is simply a motiveless monster who enjoys killing. As an MI6 agent, he is also highly skilled which makes Cross seem even more bumbling. The body count is astronomical during the first part of the book which makes it difficult to understand why Shafer and his cronies would spare the life of Christine. The Shafer we have seen, and see later, in the book would have dispatched her within milliseconds. So Shafer's killings seem motiveless. The book begins with a vignette on Shafer and ends with the villain which apparently signifies that we cannot escape a malign universe. If your idea of fun is a day at a slaughterhouse, buy this book.
Book Review: Good but not great Summary: 3 Stars
Alex Cross has lost his edge in this book, but this is understandable as his fiancee has disappeared. However, he isn't dealing with a criminal genius here, just a wacko who leaves a trail a mile long behind him. But there are a lot of loose ends and pointless dramas. Christine doesn't make much of an impression either (was this really the same person Damon Cross described as 'tougher than you, Daddy'?), and we have to believe that a man who killed his own wife and daughters would simply abandon his hated enemy's woman with a group of refugees and not harm a hair of her head. What made this book better than the last couple Cross novels was that we didn't have to read about Alex and Christine having dinner and sex in every chapter. Let's hope the next book brings us the old Alex-and better yet, have Christine move away and bring back Kate McTiernan. That relationship had a LOT more pizazz-and Kate was much more likeable.
Book Review: Pop Goes the Weasel is SOOOO GOOD! Summary: 3 Stars
"Pop Goes the Weasel" is one of the best of the Alex Cross series yet. I have always been a fan of James Patterson and own a lot of his books ("When the Wind blows","Kiss the Girls", "Along Came a Spider", and so much more). I have always liked the Alex Cross series and am always searching for every last book that James Patterson puts out on it. "Pop goes the Weasel" was not only a good suspense thriller but it kept you on your toes at all times. One of those great books so hard to put down. I loved the plot and the characters in it. Geoffrey Shafer is one of the most craftiest killers yet. And I love how James Patterson always portrays Alex to be a great man of his work. However, at the same time, Alex tries to have a life outside of hunting down the killer and fighting crime with his new fiance in this book. It is by far one of the best I've read and I could keep reading it over and over and it wouldn't ever get old.
