Book Reviews of Practical Intuition

Book Review: Paid for itself a thousand times over
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is my foundation work on intuition. It has rewarded my investment more than a thousand times over in money alone, and the insight and practical advice I have received through these intuitive exercises in other areas of my life have been worth as much again. This book differs markedly from many other books about intuition by simplifying and demystifying the whole subject. While so many other books will have you carrying out lengthy efforts of "tuning in" and receiving impressions to no particular purpose, this book gets you started right away dealing with issues of practical importance in your own life. After a couple of short introductory chapters, explaining how it works and what you will need, the exercises begin almost immediately. As the book progresses, you will formulate three burning questions of your own and carry out a series of exercises to refine and provide insight into them. The book contains 26 such exercises in all, every one different, and all carried out "blind", that is to say without knowing which question you are answering. Some of the author's own questions are thrown in, so you really never can guess the question you are dealing with. This is not the kind of book you can simply dip into or read for interest alone. You are forced to carry out the exercises as you reach each one before moving on in the text. This may be off-putting to some, but following the rules will reward you with much practical experience by the end of the book, and most likely some genuinely useful answers to a few of your own questions. Added to this, the book is full of examples from the author's students, so you get plenty of insight and encouragement from the efforts of other novices. If you are serious about putting intuition to practical use in your life, then this is the book to get. In fact, it may be the only book you will ever need on the subject.

Book Review: An Intuitive Shares Her Psychic Toolkit
Summary: 5 Stars

Laura Day's book, PRACTICAL INTUITION, describes ways that we can develop our psychic senses and connect more clearly with the truths that are out there -- such as what job is best, what partner is best, what to do to improve one's health, and how to make better investment and business decisions. Most of us suffer from occasional lapses in what we call "reason" or "judgement", in which we ignore deeper knowledge of who we are and what we need. This knowledge is fully accessible to each and every one of us, according to Day, who provides fun and informative exercises designed to build up our intuitive talent.

PRACTICAL INTUITION sets itself apart from other intuition books by starting with the working assumption that we all have access to universal truths and can see the future, feel how others are feeling, and generally live our lives in mystical fashion. I love this approach to the subject of intuition, because I share these beliefs and enjoy experiencing the magic in life.

I love the section Day includes in this book which shows you how you can quickly help almost anyone become your own psychic guru (even when they don't think they are psychic at all) -- for those times when you need an unbiased opinion, and don't want to hire a psychic. This is a very creative technique that you're sure to have lots of fun with as you get the answers you need to those burning questions.

Would you like to find out how intuitive you can really be? Are you open to the possibility that you already know exactly who you are and what is best for you? PRACTICAL INTUITION picks up where other intuition books leave off, and can raise your intuitive ability to heights you never knew you could reach.

Book Review: To much new age mumbo jumbo
Summary: 2 Stars

The book promises a practical guide to developing your intuition -- a worthy goal. Unfortunately, in this case, "intuition" is a code word for "psychic powers". Parts of the book concentrate on developing your ability to interpret the internal Rorschach test that is your thoughts, and to the extent that the book concentrates on that, it is worthwhile. Unfortunately, it goes too far and claims you can develop the power to predict horse races and the stock market. If you get it right, it tells you, it is the psychic power of your amazing intuition. If you get it wrong, it is because something interfered and the power wasn't working. I am reminded of the friend who says he has psychic powers to predict whether a card will be red or black. If he gets it right, he says "see, I'm psychic". If he gets it wrong, he says "Oh, it temporarily slipped away". Of course, he's right about 50% of the time. This book begs you to read significance into similar occurrences in your life. A book that helps you to know when to trust your gut feelings and how to get in touch with them would fill a gap in the self-help shelf. Unfortunately, this book doesn't know when to leave well enough alone and ventures into the new-age kook category.

Book Review: Read and Do and Repeat
Summary: 4 Stars

I had this book for years before I read it. Reading is not the correct word. It is a doing book. Laura describes each chapter as an "experience". Reading is intellectual, intuition is not and this is a practical book about how to build your intuition skills. There are two part to intuition: getting the intuitive message and doing the what does it mean/translation. It is the giving meaning that differentiates the beginners from the masters. With anything that requires doing - practice is the key. It took me two months to read, I mean - do it - front to cover. I was amazed at what I came up with. I correctly guessed a horse race winner, and a basketball score, and had some wonderful insights into my own questions. The book is full of one sentence gems, like these: "You are an active participant in the creation of your reality." and "How can you know the answer, if you don't know the question?" There were a few parts where I found myself drifting away, not sure if it got too wordy or the topic wandered off. However, I highly recommend it for people wanting to learn about and develop their intuition. I loved this book and have recommended it to several peers.

Book Review: Practical Intuition
Summary: 3 Stars

I found the 1st exercise to be a bit confusing. When I did mine & then looked a sample I was no where near that. I was a bit stumped by that.

However, the one thing that bothered me the most is the author seems to be a bit (only a bit) star struck, in the beginning of the book she talks about George Soros and how he used his intuition to invest, we now know there was more going on & I believe it was the French Govt that caught him doing some shady things. I consider him not to be what she represents him to be. It went toward her creditability of her Intuition, not being able to see past the star power. This actually set a tone that stayed with me, I couldn't shake it. I have always felt it is a mistake to use political figures in anything unless it's about politics. This bothered me so much, for so many reasons, I actually stopped reading the book about 1/2 way through. So Take this review with a grain of salt. Had I known there were figures like Soros, I would have skipped the beginning & went right to the exercises. I will attempt to get back to the book again at a later date.
