Book Review: Cute Projects, but some items hard to find

There are a ton a reviews here, so I won't repeat (please don't unhelpful vote me) it all here, I just wanted to add a few comments. I liked this book and it will definitely on my Christmas list (Library copy for now) in December. However, I did have some issues along the way. It's defiantly a good book starting point for those new to soldering and glass cutting, especially those that want to add a new dimension to their collage artwork. I loved the little glass house lamp (she even gives wiring directions) shown on the cover and her advice on doing collage when your have writer's (or more artist's) block.
At the same time, I am quite annoyed at one project (a few other's used hard to find, also her included collage for use pages did not match specific projects) that used a "dollar store book ornament." Hmm... I don't know about anyone else, but the dollar stores here, even if they are the same chain and are located less than a mile away, don't carry the same stuff. I looked online, but came up empty when trying to find a suitable (both cheap & already made) alternative. This is not an opional item, like vintage anagram tiles, but the base of the entire project. Most likely you're going to have to make your own miniature book (minus any instructions) if you want to do the project. I'm lucky that I've done quite a bit of bookbinding, so I can make my own little book; though in this case it would be MUCH (this is a collage book, not a bookbinding one) easier to just have one pre-made. Note that if you have never done bookbinding you CAN find instructions and even videos on making book for free, by doing a goggle search. My only other comment is that the projects all look similar (which can be good or bad) and can be somewhat repetitive as they use the same base skills. I do usually buy books where there are a greater variety of techniques taught, but I felt the projects here were cute enough to have a copy around. Hope this helps.
