Book Reviews of RAWvolution: Gourmet Living Cuisine

Book Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm relatively new to raw foods, and for a long time my first and only book was Ani's Raw Food Kitchen. I purchased Rawvolution a few months after getting Ani's, but didn't try it out right away. Boy was that a mistake -- especially considering Ani's has been such a hit or miss cookbook for me. I've made 4 recipes from this book recently and all 4 of them have been amazing. The seed cheese actually tastes like cheese; the Corn Chowder doesn't taste like its missing any dairy; the Thai Curry soup is just a simple and phenomenal recipe. I absolutely cannot wait to try other recipes from this book.

I sort of agree with some people who say that he uses a lot of Nama Shoyu -- a little too much. But honestly, do what sounds right to you. If you don't like salty tasting things, don't put a half a cup of Nama Shoyu in something -- adjust it accordingly and you'll be fine. Thats what cooking is all about isn't it?

As far as the physical book, it is very well designed and the photography is also excellent.

Book Review: A beautiful book about beautiful food.

I am a regular customer at Matt's cafe in Santa Monica, California and I am thrilled that he has generously made available to the public the exact recipes used to create the delicious menu items served at "Euphoria Love Rawvolution" daily. Hard to imagine a chef giving away the trade secrets used to make him successful at his work, but that is what Matt has done. The recipes I have tried so far all are surprisingly easy to prepare and come out exactly like they do at the cafe. I love the Big Matt Burgers with Cheese. They are not quick to make (one of his secrets is a long low temperature dehydration process to create tender living breads), but the recipes make a lot, and then I can keep them on hand in the fridge. It's helpful to have a shrink-wrap type Food-Savr to preserve your dehydrated foods. Another advantage of his recipe book is that he uses easily-obtained ingredients such as sunflower seeds so I don't have to spend a fortune ordering rare items in order to prepare these foods.

Book Review: Love it!

Beautiful book with a great introduction that includes the author's personal journey to the raw food lifestyle and wonderful re-enforcements of the benefits of a raw food diet. I drink the "Shake Your Money Maker" shake every morning. Some of the ingredients are hard to find locally - had to order on the internet, and some are fairly expensive, but wow! I drink this energy powerhouse and don't even think about food for hours. I only leave out the chocolate and agave which are a bit much for my body in the AM. We have used several of the other recipes, and every one was delicious. We have many raw food recipe books and this is one of the very best. You will need a dehydrator and a high speed blender to get the most out of this book, but that's true of the raw food lifestyle in general. Recently ate at the author's restaurant in Santa Monica, which is funky cool, but really, what we have made at home using this book is better (no offense, that's a testimony). Buy this book!

Book Review: R-awesome raw cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

If you search rawfood cookbooks here on Amazon, there's just under 20 by my count, of which I have almost all of them. Matt's RAWvolution is by far one of the easiest books with respect to preparation and the range of recipes is not overwhelming, making this a GREAT book for newbies and vets alike. I find I pick 4-5 things out of any cookbook and enjoy them the most. With this one, I'm happy to report, I'm enjoying just about 70-80% of the recipes. Raw food meals take a TON of preparation, so much so the difficultly (or pain in the rear) factor, often moves me to just eat a salad. NO LONGER... these are simple and much easier than some of the others. Don't get me wrong, ALL raw cookbooks are great, Matt's rises to the top for simplicity, which will move this more towards the mainstream and the fact that anybody can prepare his meals and truly enjoy the real flavor of real food. My fav is the onion bread and corn salad!!!

Book Review: Rawvolution, Great inspiring pics!

I really love the 'look' of this book. The styling. lay-out and photography is so great that they inspire me to make these recipes. The chart at the start of each recipe easily indicates if a blender, or dehydrator, etc. is necc. . Very user friendly for raw food recipes . Liked that.

I did try The Cheese Pierogis. I agree with some people here, it was too salty! It was also the wrong 'shell' choice for Pierogis,(jicama thinly sliced)did not work at all. However I can adapt this recipe and it will work .

Even with my pierogi disaster,I really have to say I do love the book. Its 'eye candy '. Which is a big part of the appeal of eating raw foods. Its mouth watering to look at and the recipes are simple yet interesting. A key motivator to get going, (despite having to tweek some of them).
