Book Reviews of RAWvolution: Gourmet Living Cuisine

Book Review: DE-LI-CIOUS raw recipes!!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an AWESOME raw recipe resource. The author gives helpful, detailed information about the philosophy and benefits of a raw foods diet as well as easy-to-follow recipes. This is the second raw food "cookbook" I've purchased (the other was Ani Phyo's Ani's Raw Foods Kitchen-another great one)and I like them both equally. However, RAWvolution's recipes in general seem to be more simplistic but just as delicious. My favorite recipes so far have been the Seed Cheese Wrap and the Spirulina Pie. So yummy!! Another perk of the book that I love is the section toward the end with different menu plans for different occasions like holidays and birthdays. I would highly recommend this cookbook to any raw foodie, vegan, vegetarian, or anyone that just wants some fun, new, and different recipes to add some variety to their diet.

Book Review: Just OK.
Summary: 4 Stars

I thought RAWvolution was just OK. Visually, it was put together well with many colorful, appetizing pictures. My favorites were the desserts, which were relatively easy to make (except the ones that required coconut meat, that's a little trickier.) The recipe that I totally hated was the cauliflower "mashed potatoes" and "gravy". I think you can trick your eyes, but the taste buds don't lie. Ewww, I seriously threw that stuff into the trash after one bite. Save yourself the trouble, skip that recipe!
Other than that, I think this book is a good stepping stone, for someone new to the raw food movement. I would like to try Matt Amsden's food delivery service to see if it tastes better than what I had tried to make at home. If I do, I'll let you all know.... :D

Book Review: Excellent raw recipes with beautiful pictures
Summary: 5 Stars

Approximately 60 recipes (in addition to salads and beverages): 12 soups, 12 appetisers, 21 entrees, 13 desserts. PRO: Many innovative and mouth-watering creations, including French onion soup, cream of celery soup, onion bread, "big matt", several pizzas and apple pie. Full-page colour photos for nearly all recipes. Fit for every-day "cooking" as well as dinner-parties. For every recipe, helpful indications with icons of the degree of difficulty and the equipment needed. Good tips on ingredients and kitchen appliances. Beautiful book, hard cover, good photos, well organised and laid-out. CON: Like many other raw food books, many pictures of the author in various poses and settings. Pity the publisher does not offer the "look inside" option.

Book Review: Inspirational for our entire family!!
Summary: 5 Stars

A BIG THANK YOU to Matt for sharing all his delicious raw recipes!! We are a 100% Raw/Live food family who found the book to be both inspirational and informative. Our children, ages 7 and 12 years, both use Matt's book daily. Their faves include Matt's Famous Onion Bread, his Eggless Egg Salad, the Falafel, BBQ Sauce, and his Coconut Carob Haystacks. Kudos to Matt for developing recipes that ignited such enthusiasm in our children. From the moment they picked the book up and purused through the beautiful photographs, they've not left our kitchen. Matt's book has empowered our children to freely prepare the most nutritious living/raw food on the planet -- all by themselves -- and best of all -- for us -- their grateful parents!!

Book Review: Word of warning
Summary: 3 Stars

While the pictures and recipes in this book are a delight to behold, I feel their focus is not on optimum health. While eating raw is a healthy lifestyle, the young man writing this book dismissed all that health by overloading the recipes with vast amounts of salt containing products and oil ingredients. After eating just two of his recipes in two consecutive days I watched my blood pressure skyrocket due to the salt overload. While this may not be a problem for younger people (whose bodies are on automatic pilot) when the time comes to participate with the body in maintaining its health, these recipes need to be tweaked to prevent toxic overload of salt and oils. The book is a good start but a hypertensive nightmare.
