Book Reviews of RAWvolution: Gourmet Living CuisineBook Review: Lots of "crowd pleasing" recipes! Summary: 5 Stars
I learned about this book from my local Raw Food Group that has potlucks once a month. My friend and I have served a few dishes from this book at that event and other events and everyone raves about the "eggless egg salad" (I LOVE IT myself), the "raw tacos", "Thai Salad" (another TO DIE FOR recipe) and the "pierogies" are all amazing! I can't tell you how many times I've made these recipes. At first, they take awhile to prepare, but the 2 and 3rd time you can whip up the recipes in no time!
I think that each recipe in the book has a picture of how it looks prepared. I love that in a cook book! I've definietly gotten my money's worth out of it!
Book Review: Too Much Soy Sauce Summary: 2 Stars
Almost every recipe in this book includes a significant amount of Nama Shoyu, a raw form of soy sauce. Not only is Nama Shoyu difficult to find, but it's *soy sauce*. Gross. I don't pour cups of soy sauce in my food.
I wanted to love this book -- beautiful photos, deceptively-simple recipes -- but the obsession with soy sauce coupled with the need for significant equipment (juicer, blender, dehydrator, spirooli slicer, etc.) means finding a recipe you can make without soy sauce in under 12 hours really hard. The one great recipe to me, the cauliflower couscous, uses an entire cup of olive oil for 3 servings -- too oily for me.
Book Review: beautiful book, but could be a bit more informative Summary: 4 Stars
this book is beautiful: hard cover binding, nice designs, beautiful photos, and has a variety of recipes. i just wish it was more informative about the storage and "shelf life" of raw foods (it merely states at the back of the book that dehydrated foods "don't spoil" but that can't be true indefinitely...??), and also i wish making this food didn't require 3 expensive small appliances (a vitamix, an excalibur dehydrator and a juicer w/ a homogenizing attachment, whatever that is....) i don't know if this was the best book for a newbie to raw food whose goal it is to just eat 1/3 of my food raw.
Book Review: I enjoyed RAWvolution ... Summary: 4 Stars
I enjoyed this book very much. The recipes are simple and tend to use more common, less expensive ingredients than many other raw cookbooks. Almost every recipe is beautifully illustrated. It's a very nice selection of recipes, just about everything you might want to make as a vegetarian in a raw version. It's not an overwhelming number of recipes, either, good for a beginner. I give it four stars instead of five because I often have to adjust the seasoning, he'll use way too much for me, and the pictures of someone in patched up blue jeans did not appeal to me.
Book Review: Best Raw Food Un-cook Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a beautiful book, done with Lots of Love, and you can feel the positive energy and vibes coming off the pages. The recipes are incredible and delicious and easy to make. Kudos to the author, Matt Amsden, and all who were involved in writing and publishing this book. I'm very excited to try all the recipes and they are a great tool for living a healthy lifestyle, and if one so chooses, helps one "go raw" and stay raw. Thank you for making this book available on Amazon and to all who are considering purchasing this book, you won't be disappointed.
