Book Review: Marcinko was ahead of his time
Summary: 4 Stars
Author Marcinko was ahead of his time in many regards. He seems to have had an understanding of what the West was facing with determined terrorists who's belief in their cause, willingness to sacrifice for their beliefs and willingness to take violence to a new level was greater than what the West was prepared to face.
Marcinko's work is action-packed and filled with graphic violence. For this reason, it was not really my kind of book at all. Yet I recognize Marcinko for pushing readers/listeners to the edge with descriptions of violence as he apparently was warning of a new war that was about to be started. He's visionary, realistic but graphically too violent for my tastes.
The Rogue Warrior is not introspective. He does not question what actions the West took that contributed to the problems. But he typifies the true warrior spirit in that he's willing to face terrible violence to protect innocents, although his use of violence is nothing short of shocking. I got close to the end of the book before I was unable to listen anymore, unwilling to envision a world so warlike. Others will have a stronger stomach.
