Book Reviews of Rainbow Green Live-Food CuisineBook Review: recipes are not balanced Summary: 3 Stars
I've only tried one of his cracker recipes....it was so gross I threw out the whole thing. If I had read more carefully the ingredients, I would have noticed that 1Tablespoon of salt was an extreme amount for a batch of crackers. Then I went through his other recipes, they seem to be grossly imbalanced also (but to be fair I haven't tried them). To me that says a lot about the philosophy as well (extreme, imbalanced). I still believe your God-given sense of taste is the best way to judge if a food is good for you or not. I for one can actually taste the difference between an organic and non organic apple. I think raw food that tastes bad...is still not good for you. for those who are comtemplating the raw lifestyle, don't be discouraged if you haven't found any recipes you truly like, there are some really REALLY great ones out there, I just don't think you are likely to find them in this book.
Book Review: I've had it one day and it's already dog-eared Summary: 5 Stars
I own 11 raw food recipe books and this is the first one where I was folding down the corner of practially every recipe page to flag it. Finally a recipe book that doesn't have page after page of sweet fruit salads, smoothies, soups and sauces. This is savory recipe after savory recipe with a LOT of dehydrating involved. Apparently G. Cousen's view is now that you should start out dehydrating wet foods at 145 degrees for two hours and then knock it down to 115 in order to get the food out of the dehydrator faster and not encourage bacterial overgrowth on your food. It still seems inconclusive on how this really effects the enzymes. For the next book possibly? Oh, and the desserts look really good, too. Lots of nuts here, no cashews or maple syrup. Two things I overuse and have been wanting to remove from my diet. Great buy!
Book Review: This is a must-have book! Summary: 5 Stars
I had been toying with the raw-vegan diet for several months. I didn't really know what to prepare except raw fruit and vegetable juices, and make salads. I really have wanted to be 80%-20% raw to cooked if possible--but felt limited in what I could fix for meals everyday. A friend gave me this book for Christmas and it has changed my life! First of all, the information is invaluable--and gives great credibility as to why a mostly raw food diet is beneficial. Secondly, all the recipes I've tried so far are --nothing short of fabulous! The food is so good--you forget that you are eating 'raw'. Now my choices are limitless. My husband (not the most adventurous eater) is thrilled with the taste sensations! Get this book--and use it!

Book Review: Doesn't seem like this is up to the latest research to me.... Summary: 1 Stars
I looked at this book and was at first really excited about it's potential. And although I am sure it still has a lot of great vegan recipes that I would like to try out, I find it hard to trust the evidence behind his research after reading the very well cited and researched book by Jim Robbins "The New Food Revolution" which very systematically deduces why the whole concept behind "eating right for your blood type" is a whole load of BS based on speculation and no hard scientific evidence. As is quoted in that book, eating right for your blood type is as arbitrary of a designation as eating right for your eye color. I know this is a small part of the theory, but if he is basing this part on falsities, who knows what other unverified resources he is using.
Book Review: Dr Cousens is SO GREAT! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is an education in the why of a raw food diet. I like it for Dr. Cousens' thorough explanations of what goes on in the body when we have an acidic condition. And it's not pretty. When I first read it I was most impressed with its clarity and patient explanations. Now that I've read the text twice I keep it open for the wonderful recipes in the second half of the book. I didn't think that you could make such tasty stuff without any kind of sweet fruit... but these recipes are delicious! I've been pleased and delighted with every one that I've tried. I really hope other people have the chance to read this book, because I can only wish that the increased awareness and health I've received from it be felt by others.
