Book Reviews of Rant: The Oral Biography of Buster CaseyBook Review: Rant Summary: 4 Stars
Rant by Chuck Palahniuk ****
Written in a pretty unusual way for a novel Rant: The Oral Biography of Buster Casey is one of Palahniuks crowning achievements as an author. Entertaining, funny, insightful, and always just a little bit odd.
The book chronicles the life of Buster 'Rant' Casey one of the worlds most notorious somethings. While not a mass murderer he might as well be. The story is told in spoken word interviews from the people who knew Rant best, or the ones who think they did. While every persons story conflicts with others it shows that we don't always see ourselves as others do.
While still not his best work, Rant is one of the top releases from UpChuck.
Book Review: WHAT A BOOK!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is rad, simply rad. I love Chuck and I love Oral history books. (IF you haven't read world war z, read it-Zombies are awesome) Anyways, what I love about chuck is he keeps me interested the whole book and really gets into the heads of different types of people. While this book is sometimes hard to keep track of who is who, in the end you will be like man, what a great book. If you are like me, you will love this book, here are a few things I find awesome:
Zombies
Fighting
Martial Arts
Dragons
Ninjas
Time Travel
People who don't think like me.
Lasers
So if you think you are like me get this book, because I loved it.
Book Review: Great Book for the right person Summary: 4 Stars
I picked this book up because I'm tired of reading the typical Grisham novel and wanted something well written and odd. Rant fit the bill. I've never read any of his other books and I was suprised at how much I liked it. The story is strange and beautiful and at the same time it can be very confusing if you don't pay close attention to everythings thats going on, but if you do I think the ending is rewarding. There were several times that I felt like I was going to just put it down, but then there would be a twist in the story that would intrigue me and pull me in for more. If you like dark, imaginative, mysterious, fairy-tales, with a sci-fi bent, then rant is the book for you.
Book Review: A wild ride of a read Summary: 4 Stars
What a fascinating read by a ridiculously talented author. Other than being a fan of the film version of his novel "Fight Club", I didn't know a whole lot about him. Now I know that he is a writer to greatly admire and envy. It took me a few pages to adjust to the experimental form this novel is written in, but once its hooks were in me the book never let go of my rapt attention. Slowly but surely it reveals its secrets, not showing you the little man behind the Wizard of Oz in one fell swoop, but rather, exposing the method behind the madness in brilliant little increments. By the end I was left in a joyous daze. My perception of reality will never be quite the same.
Book Review: Be prepared to stop and backtrack Summary: 5 Stars
If you are considering this book I feel like I can make a couple of assumptions about you. First, (and I do hope that this is true) you have probably read one of the authors other books and understand that the story is not told in a linear fashion. You jump around quite a bit, but the story telling lends itself to that. Second, you have probably seen the movie "Fight Club" and understand how your mind gets twisted around trying to follow what is going on. If neither of these is true, then you probably won't like this book. If you have read some of the other stories like "Haunted", "Snuff" or "Choke" then you know what you are getting yourself into.
