Book Review: "Hail The Goer" ~ Caution, Paradigm Shift In Progress!
Summary: 5 Stars

Goodbye Dr. Richard Alpert, Harvard Psychology professor. Hello Baba Ram Dass, Hindu spiritual seeker and devotee of the great monkey-God Hanuman!

'Be Here Now' was a phenomenon born out of the sixties counter culture movement and became "the book" that turned the spiritual consciousness of the Christian West eastwards, thus altering the metaphysical landscape forever. Not only were the ideas within this 416 page softcover book made of recycled materials a shock to the religious nervous system of the American mainstream, but the very format was a mystery all its own. Part autobiography, part Occidental psychology, part hippie philosophy, part Indian mysticism, part comic book, one was left to wonder if the text was meant to be read in the conventional manner, or somehow absorbed by simply chanting the contents out loud.

Truly a piece of 20th century American spiritual history that should be experienced by all. PARADIGM SHIFT ANYONE?

Book Review: My mind is blown
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I read this book back in the 70's I wrote to a friend of mine saying, "My mind...my mind is blown." Thirty years later my mind is still blown by Ram Dass. He was at the forefront of a cultural revolution which allowed milllions to find a more spiritually rewarding way to live. What was once a New Age way of looking at the world is now firmly imbeded in our culture. In my memoir, Hitchhiking from Vietnam: Seeking the OxHitchhiking From Vietnam I use what I learned from Ram Dass to help me straighten out my life after returning from Vietnam. Be Here Now is a delightful hodge podge of stuff that will help the novice spiritual seeker sort through the voluminous literature of self actualization in a very accessible way. Like Ram Dass would say, "It's all just stuff," but what mind blowing stuff it is. I highly recommend this book.

Book Review: The Om on the spine says it all... Perfection
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is the most amazingly beautiful book I have ever encountered. Reading it brings more love into my heart than even the Bagavad-Gita! Dr. Richard Alpert (Ok, Ok Baba Ram Dass) is an amazingly inspiration to me. I am only 16, but my life seems to be following the same sort of path that his did. I ate lots of LSD, experiences cosmic unity, returned, and now I want more, but I want it permanently :-) If you've ever eaten LSD, but are not into spirituality, this book will turn you on to spirituality. If you are spiritual, then this book will give you a good ammount of practical experiments and spiritual excersises. The latest version of this book (from the Hanuman Foundation) also has a VERY thorough list of spiritually oriented books rated from "Books good to hang out with" to "Books good to see now and then" to "Books it is good to have known"

Good stuff! Thanks Richard, I mean, Baba!

Book Review: Ram Dass is the best!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you've never read Ram Dass, start here--this is his best book. He wrote it in the midst of his spiritual awakening in the early '70s after having spent years in India with his guru, Maharji. It's basically a literal and illustrated explanation of spiritual awakening. RD is a master at translating complex Eastern spiritual teachings into concepts that Westerners can grasp. He has been my greatest spiritual teacher and I am eternally grateful to him. And he kindly endorsed my book, To Bee or Not to Bee (sort of an allegorical version of Be Here Now), with the following: "This tender allegory mirrors our learning to Bee Here Now." It's now in 11 languages. Thank you Ram Dass for the profound impact you have had on my life; I love you.

Book Review: Why be anywhere else?
Summary: 5 Stars

"Be Here Now" captures more truth per page with less dogma and greater clarity than many foundation religious texts. There are elements of the era within which Ram Dass wrote the book, and given his path, significant discussion regard chemically altered consciousness that may be less resonant with today's readers. I first read the book after returning from participation in the Southeast Asian conflict in 1971. In the intervening years, I have revisited the book on multiple occasions with extended family members (Christian, Buddist, Hindu), my children, and most recently this year when my eldest grandchild turned 16, and with my new fiancée. The book speaks to readers on multiple levels, and resonates clearly, but differently with the passage of time. "Be Here Now (Be Now Here)" is a truly wonderful book, able to spark introspection and enlightenment in readers, and Ram Dass' enlightened gift to us all.
