Book Reviews of Remember, Be Here Now

Book Review: Unbelievable
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the greatest books to come out of America, EVER. This is not just a counter-culture hippie book; it is a legitimate work of profoundly life-improving philosophy. There are many tedious works of philosophy out there that seem to ask questions just for the sake of asking questions, and leave you with the feeling that you've only been playing fruitless mind-games. _Be Here Now_ is not like that at all. It addresses issues that really are important to us humans, and gives advice that can truly help you to improve your quality of life. ... _Be Here Now_, on the other hand, shows you time-honored eastern philosophical methods which will solve your illusory problems - not just cover them up. It also has a good moral theme to it, showing you ways to be happy without having to do so at other people's expense.

Book Review: The Book Of Quotable Quotes
Summary: 4 Stars

One of the more idiosyncratic publications of Hippiedom,'Be Here Now' has retained its now quaint format, with the lrge text revelations on recycled brown paper bulking its core. It's this part of the book that carries the whiff of nostalgia. The biographical data on Alpert's move from successful psychology therapist and LSD experimenter, to guru status is of interest. It's general frame is nothing out of the ordinary, in fact expresses, the middleclass disenchantment of the 60s. The last third of the book,'Cookbook for a Sacred Life' is a compendium of quotable quotes that will never go astray from anyone's daily diary page. Thirty-five years on, one of the strangest things about the book is how much more mainstream the thinking is. And this volume contributed to that paradigm shift.

Book Review: Cosmic Wisdom
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first read this book in 1971, it was the bible of the new age movement. It synthesized just about everything .It was psychology, philosophy, poetry, religion, mysticism, and was non-dogmatic. It was inclusive. Spiritual jazz at its finest. When I read it again 30 years later, like a classic, it still held up. "Be here now" is not just a simplistic platitude, it is pure cosmic wisdom. Just about every recent book on happiness emphasizes the importance of embracing the moment. You don't find happiness in the past or the future. This is not some kind of a faddish pop culture, hippie leftover thing. This book has endured as a best seller for a good reason. It's applicable any time and any place. Wherever you go, you're 'here'. Whenever you go, it's 'now'. Read this book.

Book Review: excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

Ram Dass has written an excellent book for folks with an interest in buddhist thought, understanding the path. The first section explains his background ~ Ph.D. & professor at Harvard and Stanford. Brilliant. The second part provides outlet for his creative right brain influenced by enlightened beings and LSD. It is "really far out!!!" The third section discusses methods of / practice that might lead one to awakening. This is a fascinating foundational book, that at $10 is well worthwhile for both an understanding of eastern thought as seen by a westerner who had been using LSD and exposure to American counter~culture in the early 1970s. It is recommended, but usually more for an academic appreciation than as a "how to" book. I give it, as such, an A~.

Book Review: The truth will set you free, or are you?
Summary: 5 Stars

It was midnight and I was on top a butte in the Glass Mountains of Oklahoma. I was with another kind soul and poured my anguished heart out regarding my feelings of betrayal - war residue. He said I should read "Be Here Now". I did and 35 years later my gratitude is still high, it is such a magnificent book. It spoke beautify of Karma and Grace, of an amazing voyage of self discover and despair. It points the kindest finger you're likely to come across to the notion you aren't alone or in bondage. I've since been a Yogi, a body worker, an Astrologer and Therapist and haven't out grown "Be Here Now". Read it and set your own course. Just remember, whatever is happening you're there and millions of the billions share your experience. Who are you?
