Book Reviews of Remember Me?

Book Review: Another great read by Sophie Kinsella
Summary: 4 Stars

While not as humorous as some of Sophie Kinsella's other books, I really enjoyed this one.

A story about how Lexi's ordinary life is literally transformed overnight (at least as far as she's concerned) due to amnesia. She's forced into a seemingly pefect life and forced to ask herself some tough questions, like what's a "perfect" life, what drives you for success, what's important to you etc.

As with most of Sophie Kinsella's books, there's some career focus, romance, friendships and family life. A nice, light read that really holds your interest with great characters and lots of things that are relatable.

I can't wait for her next book. I have read all of her books and will be certain to read them again or listen to the audio. (abridged and unabridged)

I listened to audio version on this one read by Rosalyn Landry (she also read the last 2 Shopaholic Books and Undomestic Godess (unabridged). She's an okay narrator and does a nice job, but I missed Emily Gray, who narrated the first 3 Shopaholic Books and the abridged version of "Can You Keep A Secret" - Emily is amazing.

Book Review: Entertaining but not her best
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the third book that Madeleine Wickman (aka Sophie Kinsella) has written under the Kinsella pseudonym, outside of the Shopaholic series. She published 7 books under her own name from 1995-2001.

Each of the three non-Shopaholic books, this one, Can You Keep a Secret and The Undomestic Goddess, concerns a wild premise, where something very unusual has happened. In this book it is amnesia where the victim has undergone a complete life change between her last memories and the present. In Can You Keep a Secret, it was a young lady telling her boss, although she doesn't know he's her boss, all her innermost secrets, when she thinks the plane is crashing. In The Undomestic Goddess, it was a professional lawyer posing as a maid, because of professional malpractice.

All three books are entertaining, but the prior two books are more interesting and develop the unusual situations better and more thoroughly. So, if you like this kind of literature, this book is worth reading. But if you haven't read the previous two books, Can You Keep a Secret and the Undomestic Goddess, I'd start with those.

Book Review: Forget Kinsella
Summary: 3 Stars

For those of you who are familiar with the Shopaholic series and have grown to adore her quirky characters you might be disappointed with this latest work. It has been a little while since we have seen a new book by Sophie Kinsella and in my opinion we still haven't. The great part of the Shopaholic series is that it is fun light reading with an ending you can see a hundred miles away but you love seeing how the girl will make it all work out.

Remember Me? is much closer to the books by Madeleine Wickham. If you enjoyed Cocktails for Three and Gatecrasher this will be right up your ally. It is a bit more dark. The characters are not as instantly lovable and there is not a general, overwhelming feeling of happiness permeating the pages of the novel. It is a quick read that chronicles the life of a woman who is waking up with amnesia only to realize that she was never very happy and although she lived two separate lives, views both as a lie. The ending is far from the joyous, cute resolution offered up in the Shopaholic series.

Decent read but certainly not the fun beach book for which I was hoping.

Book Review: Can Ms. Kinsella do any wrong?
Summary: 5 Stars

Hopefuly the world will never have to find out! 'REMEMBER ME?' is just another in a long line of thoroughly entertaining, extremely funny and wildly successful books by Sophie Kinsella. In this, her third stand alone novel, we meet Lexi Smart a beautiful and successful career woman with a beautiful home and amazingly handsome husband. Unfortunately for Lexi she has no idea how she got any of it. Last she remembers it is 2004 and she has a dead end job, frizzy hair, crooked teeth and has just been stood up by a guy named Looser Dave. Now she wakes up in a hospital bed only to find that she has amnesia and doesn't remember the last three years of her life including how everything fell into place. But as time goes on and Lexi tries to settle back into her life she begins to realize that all that glitters isn't gold.

I loved 'REMEMBER ME?' it was fast paced and as I said before...hilarious (as usual)! If you've loved Sophie Kinsella's other books this one will not disappoint and if you have not read anything by this amazing author 'REMEMBER ME?' is as good a place to start as any!

Book Review: An average read...
Summary: 3 Stars

In Sophie Kinsella's "Remember Me?," Lexi Smart woke up one day in 2007 and realized that she did not remember anything the events for the last three years. Her last recollection was the night before her father's funeral in 2004. The Lexi in 2004 had frizzy hair and crooked teeth, and was stood up by someone named Loser Dave. She was unambitious but popular with her friends. Lexi discovered that in 2007, she was a director at the carpet company she worked at, and she was married to a highly successful and gorgeous man named Eric. Initially, Lexi was extremely happy that her life worked out that way but soon discovered that it was not the way it seemed.

This was an okay book for me. I was a little disappointed because I have high expectations of Sophie Kinsella as her work has been just splendid so far. "Remember Me?" was quite average for me and I found that it lacked wit and humor which was I expected from the author. That being said, this was a quick read and it has its sort-of-funny moments with a rather unoriginal plot. That being said, I still look forward to her next book.
