Book Reviews of Return to Sullivan's Island

Book Review: A Sad Departure...
Summary: 2 Stars

This book is a sad departure from what I've come to expect from Dorothea Benton Frank. The main character, Beth, is a whiny, spoiled, immature recent college grad who seems to have lived her entire life in a bubble. The remaining characters are caricatures of people, not fully developed characters. I was really disappointed in the lack of humor as I've come to expect some good laughs (with Frank's other books spoiling me!) from Frank and this book was humorless. I am sad to say that I found this book annoying, humorless, and dull. Save yourself time and money -- skip this one and we will wait for Frank's next book -- hopefully it will be much, much better!

Book Review: Sorry I bought this book...
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been reading this book for almost a week and am only 1/2 way through. This is because after a few pages I just can't take anymore. I loved all of Dorothea Benton Frank's books and have been a faithful fan since the first one. This one is just plain awful. The story doesn't get interesting, the people are juvenile, the story line does not move on.... same thing over and over and over. This book could have been written for 14 year olds, but I'm afraid it would bore them too. I am about to give up and leave this book unfinished. I will add Frank's name to the growing list of authors that I will no longer buy, but read free from the library.

Book Review: Great Summer Read !!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say I feel like I have been living in a cave or under a rock because I just have discovered Dot Frank's books in the past year...and boy have I enjoyed catching up on some great reading!! I live in the Low Country where she writes about and captures so perfectly!!
I loved "Sullivan's Island" and "Return To Sullivan's Island" .... each make a great story by themselves but if you have the opportunity read them together and it really completes the picture!
Dot brings such warmth , humor and detail to her stories... they are an absolute pleasure to read! It will have you wanting to book a trip to the Low Country!

Book Review: So Disappointed!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been a fan of Dorothea Benton Frank since her first book, the original SULLIVAN'S ISLAND. It was one of those stories that you didn't want to end when you finished the book. In the mean time, I have read all of her offerings as they were released and enjoyed them with mixed reviews. When I learned that she was releasing a sequel the the original SI, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. What a disappointment! I just wanted to finish it so I could move on to something better! It was just about as contrived and far fetched as one could imagine. A let down from beginning to end...just sorry I sprang for the hardback edition!

Book Review: Enjoyed it.
Summary: 4 Stars

Wow, after seeing so many bad reviews on this book I can't wait to read more of DBF's novels as the other books that she's written have received better reviews. I personally loved "Return to Sullivan's Island, and enjoyed reading it this summer. This was my first book to read of the novalist, and I feel that she did a good job with the main character. Beth made some bad judgements, but hey, that's life for all of us at some point. Will not say anything more so as to not spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it, but I really did like the book and hated that it had to end.
