Book Reviews of Return to Sullivan's Island

Book Review: Boring!
Summary: 1 Stars

Like so many others, I really wanted to like this one and so I gave it the good old college try. However, I ended up being greatly disappointed. DBF's descriptive skills are excellent, but I would have preferred less description of what the stupid cupboards looked like and more actual storytelling. The characters were ambiguous and flat, the dialogue was inane, and the story moved at a snail's pace.

I give this book one star because it was good for one thing: curing insomnia!

Book Review: Another disappointment...
Summary: 1 Stars

After being thoroughly disappointed in "Bulls Island" I was giving DBF another chance with "Return". It was no better...a complete lack of character development and a moronic plot. The ending was so stupid I couldn't read the last two pages. Maggie and Susan certainly didn't deserve that treatment; they were strong compelling characters in the original book. I can't even comment on Beth. The only thing going for the book is the setting and she doesn't do it justice.

Book Review: Another great book
Summary: 5 Stars

Return to Sullivans Island is another great book by Dorthea B Franks. Born and raised in the low country I can say that she brings that magical place to life for her readers. It was fun to catch up on familar characters and meet new ones. I loved the reunion of many of her books characters at Anna's Cabana. Reading this book was a much needed vacation with not having to leave my front porch. The only sad part is that I will have to wait until she writes another book.

Book Review: Ghost writer?
Summary: 1 Stars

I was so disappointed with this most recent publication by DBF. I've read all of her oher other books and enjoyed them, but I had to push myself to finish this one. Halfway through the book, the plot just falls apart. It's very juvenile in nature, the characters are one-dimensional, and the plot rushes off in helter-skelter directions. There is an overabundance of dialogue, which seems to have been written by an amateur. Don't waste your time or money on this book.

Book Review: ....and never want to leave!,
Summary: 5 Stars

My all time favorite author does it again! As I was nearing the end of "Retrun to Sullivans Island" I told my husband that I didnt want it to end. It was wonderful to return to the Hamilton family, their beloved island home and "watching" Beth grow up in those few short weeks. I hope we "return" again one day to check in on Beth and Woody and Susan and her siblings. (not to mention check in on the island and how its staving off the big developers!)
