Book Reviews of Rules of Prey (Lucas Davenport, No. 1)

Book Review: OMG - What a Rush ...
Summary: 4 Stars

Not your cuddle-up in front of the fire mystery thriller ...

I have previously not given much thought to any of the "Prey" series, considering them too violent, too stereotypical, or something. Boy - was I in for a surprise! Lucas Davenport, the main character of these books, has a well developed persona from the get go. This being the first book of the series, as well as one of John Sandford's earlier works, was refreshingly riveting and I found myself not wanting to be distracted from reading more and more as I got into the book - I just finished this and have already started on the next book, "Shadow Prey" and it is equally as attention-getting as "Rules of Prey". I do love good mysteries - particularly when the characters get to evolve through development in ensuing books. Thank you Mr. Sandford

a good read - not for the faint-hearted

Book Review: Rules of Prey by John Sanford
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the first book in the "Prey" series I've had the chance to read. With all of the books by Sanford with the word "Prey" in the title, I honestly didn't think they would be very good, but I was pleasantly surprised. "Rules Of Prey" is outstanding. I know it's an old cliche, but I found myself not wanting to put it down once I began reading it. I first started reading the Virgil Flowers books by Sanford and all three are great. Lucas Davenport is the detective, leading character, in the "Prey" series and in my opinion, he's as good or better than Flowers. If you enjoy reading books by Michael Connelly, James Patterson, or Lee Child, I recommend that you try the John Sanford books. "Rules Of Prey" will have you wanting more of Lucas Davenport. I've already bought the first eight books in the "Prey" series.

Book Review: Amazing opener to an amazing series.
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow. I was completely amazed by not only the storyline but also Sandfords unique style of writing. I absolutely adore the two game enthusiasts battle via murders and the media. Something great about Sandfords books is that he is able to create likable horrible villains that you still dont want to see take down the protagonist of the series, Lucas. Maddog is no exception to this, he is likable just because of how horrible, clever and disgusting he is yet you still have to root for Lucas Davenport because hes so determined to end not only the serial killings, but the killers life as well. I would definitely prescribe this book to any friend that has a winter depression from boredom because it will have you reading this nonstop as well as putting all 18 other books in the series in your Amazon cart!

Book Review: Revisiting a book with new eyes
Summary: 3 Stars

I read this novel originally when it came out - back then I found it fresh and different I was a huge Ed McBain 87th squad reader at the time. Now having read the 18 books that have followed the debut of Lucas Davenport I find that back then Lucas was a wimp, putting up with the garbage that Jennifer handed out, not being so swift on the uptake when hunting down the killer and really being a cardboard cut out of a character his one saving grace was his relationship then as now with Ellie and how his relationship with Sloane was developing - Can't give it more than an adequate rating but I am glad that I stuck with the series through the years

Book Review: A MUST-READ FOR SANFORD FANS!
Summary: 5 Stars

I PICKED UP A JOHN SANFORD PREY-SERIES BOOK "OUT-OF-SEQUENCE," WHICH A LOT OF PEOPLE DO. RULES OF PREY IS THE FIRST IN THE SERIES, AND I PURCHASED IT AS A PAPERBACK, WHICH WAS "KIND" TO MY BUDGET. IT INTRODUCED CHARACTERS THAT WILL, I SUPPOSE, RESURFACE THROUGHOUT THE PREY SERIES--IF THEY ARE NOT SHOT OR DEAD, OF COURSE. AS FOR THE ITEM ITSELF, IT WAS SHIPPED IN A TIMELY MANNER--THE DAY THE ORDER WAS PLACED--BUT THE WAIT SEEMED EXTREMELY LONG! HOWEVER, SINCE I AM AN EXISTING CUSTOMER, I ATTRIBUTE THIS TO THE MAILS RATHER THAN AMAZON OR THE VENDOR IN THIS CASE, HIPPO BOOKS.
