Book Reviews of RunBook Review: Ruined by the Editor? Summary: 2 Stars
I get the feeling that this was a much longer book and the editor convinced Ms. Patchett to make it into an episode of 24 (or the Da Vinci Code). Lots of interesting material about the Madonna and Ireland in the beginning, the interesting revelation by the comatose Tennessee in the middle, then the hurry up and let's get all the pieces tied up with a "running" theme at the end --- with little connection among the three. Ms. Patchett, I suggest you go with your instincts and don't make the editor cut the life out of your future novels.
Book Review: Great story telling Summary: 5 Stars
This is different from the wonderful Bel Canto, and yet is the same in that it is all about relationships -- this time in a complicated family. Each character comes alive and is believable. The description of how thrilling the act of running can be is like nothing I have seen before. The portrait of a strong young black girl is compelling and I would recommend this book to advanced adolescents. The book deals with issues of race, family, class, education and the hopes and dreams of one generation for another.
Book Review: Run Summary: 4 Stars
This book was a Book Club book, recommended by one of our members. I had no predetermined expectations. I bought the book, read it, and thouroughly enjoyed it. The story was believable and the characters likable. This was my first Ann Patchett book. I liked her style, and I look forward to reading some of her other works.
Book Review: Run- an engrossing but flawed novel Summary: 4 Stars
"Run" is an engrossing novella with real characters that are nicely developed. It is not nearly as good as the author's previous novel, "Bel Canto", but is still worth reading, in parts it can even be described as a page turner. I enjoyed it very much, and my husband is reading it now and likes it very much.
Book Review: twenty stars for this one Summary: 5 Stars
Take your time reading this one. This is a book that forces you to care deeply about the characters in it, the urban landscapes, nature and everything everything everything in it. You'll want to savor each page and take it all with you. Be prepared for a few nights of serious sleep deprivation.
