Book Reviews of RuneScape: The Official Handbook

Book Review: ** PLEASE READ **
Summary: 3 Stars

** WARNING ** This book ONLY includes information on Runescape from THREE YEARS AGO and does NOT include members-only information.

I bought this book about 2 or 3 years ago. I have since been playing RuneScape for 7 years and although this book *was* good, it is VERY much so out-dated, and I don't recommend anyone buy this product.

What JaGEx, or Java Gaming Experts, forgot when making this book, is that RuneScape is updated on a regular bases; typically being once every 2 weeks. So much of the information has been changed, that this is *almost* a worthless read.
[...]

You may think that there is some useful material. The rules must be that same as 3 years ago, right? WRONG! Even the rules have changed making this book very useless! Not only is this book for F2P only (Free to Play), but the graphics are very outdated. RuneScape is now playable in HD and looks much better :)

*SUMMARY*

This book was my pride and joy -- 3 years ago. It has since been way outdated. I would not recommend this book to anyone other than someone who is wanting to know what the 'older' RuneScape was like. [...]

Thank you, merci, und danke!

Book Review: A great introduction and guide book.
Summary: 4 Stars

RuneScape is actually a fairly complicated game. Young people love to play it and there is actually a lot to learn to fully enjoy it. This book introduces and explains the basics, the various characters and some elements of strategy. It is targeted toward young readers between 9-12 years old and judging by the way I see these kids carrying the book around and the enthusiasm they have for it, it's a hit. When I look through it, I notice that there are a lot of good illustrations and the material is visually well presented. There is also enough text to make it worthwhile, but not overwhelming. This is a nice introduction and reference, if you play RuneScape yourself or you have a son or daughter who does, they will probably love this book.

This book is essential for advancing through the various levels of the game. It may be a bit too simplistic for older teenagers. However, it's a nice fast track to get more competitive in a short time.

Book Review: Pointless Book
Summary: 1 Stars

Allow me to say, if you have already purchased this book then I'm sorry. The book poorly attempts to explain RuneScape and tries to teach players how to play, but the author failed to realize one thing: The game updates every week.

The rules and monsters mentioned in the book are obsolete; the pictures are no longer relevant since runescape is constantly updating the graphics; the rules are ever changing; and the book is for 9-12 year olds when the rules clearly state that the game is for 13+? The author should go back to tutorial island and learn that you should never make a guide book about a constantly changing game.

I'd only recommend this book if it's on the shelf of your supermarket checkout line and you need something to read; of course don't actually buy the book.

Book Review: RuneAwesome
Summary: 5 Stars

This guide is amazing. But be forewarned, all screenshots are all pre-HD...so it's all going to be Standard Detail. But in my opinion that only made it all the cooler, but hey, I'm old-fashioned.

This guide only cover the F2P (Free-To-Play) aspects of the game, so if you're a member, there's not really anything all that useful for you here.

But it does have some maps that are really helpful.

Oh, and the "exclusive poster" isn't all that great. It's just a pic of the land of Gielinor. But it's like an outline of it, so don't expect any detail.

It's still an awesome guide, so if you're a REAL RuneScape fan, you should buy it. I did it. And that makes me awesome.

Book Review: Now rather dated
Summary: 3 Stars

This guide must have been very useful when it came out, but it is now rather dated. The game has had many changes and additions since this came out. Some quests have changed. It doesn't cover any pay-to-pay content, dungeoneering, or the achievement system. I found the maps of the beginning areas useful, and some of the crafting tables (especially the smithing table), and the melee comparison table. For up-to-date and detailed information, it's better to look on-line (both Jagex's official site, and some fan wikis)
