Book Reviews of Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade CookingBook Review: not as bad as her dessert book Summary: 3 Stars
I am not a big fan of Sandra Lee and agree with many of the criticisms made by other reviewers here, however compare this collection of recipes to her dessert book, I'd have to say this is better.
Some of the recipes are actually usable and if you are truly in a rush, I guess some of the ideas are okay.
Processed foods are not that good for you and definitely not cheaper, but if you need just a couple of emergency recipes for super-quick meals, this book does have them.
I don't recommend this book as a purchase...try to borrow.
Book Review: Rip OFF! Summary: 1 Stars
Sandra Lee is a rip-off! I really like to cook - I read lots of cooking magazines and watch lots of cooking shows and Sandra Lee is so lame. Her recipes are not recipes at all, she just tells you to buy things and heat them up! One of her "creations", the kids cupcakes, were on the cover of an issue of "Gourmet" several years ago! I'm all for easy recipes but hers are not worthy of my time! She is a queen of velveeta processed, hydrogenated mediocrity! Don't waste your money. Just go to the velveeta website - the recipes are free there.
Book Review: Producing foods which seem time-consuming but only take a fraction of the time Summary: 5 Stars
Semi-Homemade Cooking introduces the idea of producing foods which seem time-consuming but only take a fraction of the time. How? By blending 70% store-bought ingredients with 30% fresh foods to produce the taste of homemade. Open with a Raspberry Sake, move to a Crabby Bisque of condensed crab bisque enhanced with heavy cream and crabmeat, then use the slow cooker to produce Chinese Braised Short Ribs or Southern Pulled Pork - or top it off with Cinnamon Buns made from frozen white bread dough enhanced with spices, sugar, and butter.

Book Review: I love this book Summary: 5 Stars
I bought Sandra's Semi-homemade Cooking and Cooking 2 before the holidays. I ordinarily eat "right", ie, lean proteins, 7 fruits and vegetables, 2 dairy, whole grain, etc. most days, its healthy but not too exciting. But when I entertain I like to pull out all stops and prepare something that looks and tastes great for my family and friends. I also work full time and then some. So these books are a delight, I've made about 5 of the recipes, they don't take a lot of time and my guests loved them. I can't wait to try them all!
