Book Reviews of Say GoodbyeBook Review: confusing Summary: 1 Stars
THis is the most confusing book I have ever tried to read. The "first person" chapters seemed to be several people, not just one. Still don't know who it was supposed to be.
In one chapter, the victim beat the villan to death. The next chapter and from there on the villan just keeps appearing. Don't know who got beaten to death.
In the beginning of the book, the little boy was abducted from his home in the middle of the night. In the epilogue, it said that he was abducted on the way home from school.
Some chapters were devoted exclusively to spiders and their care, personalities, characteristics. Can't think of a less interesting subject to have to read about.
To me, no character seemed to be fully defined or identified. Also did not like the arrogant, self-centered, self-righteous, aggressive main character, Kimberly.
Do not recommend. A total waste of time
Book Review: I couldn't put this book down Summary: 4 Stars
I should have gone to sleep earlier last night, but I couldn't put this book down. The first book I read by this author was her newest - still in hardcover. I went on to get her paperbacks because I enjoyed new hardcover so much. I thought SAY GOODBYE was a very different read than the new book, and it took me awhile to get into it. And, I guess because I read it so late into the night, I got mixed up about who was doing the thinking in the front of some of the chapters. I'm not sure what the background of the murderer is yet. So I guess I missed something. For that reason, I'm kinda left confused and wanting to understand better... so I've been going through the book today trying to piece it together better.
I'll probably end up moving on to one of her older paperbacks, though.
Anyway, for those of you who think it's too graphic, DO YOU EVER WATCH THE NEWS????
Book Review: Who wrote this? Summary: 1 Stars
I HATE this book! I had to put it down. It is SOOO much darker than anything she has previously written. I have loved each of her books up until this one. I actually went out the day it was released to buy it. I can't even imagine this is from the same author. VERY DISTURBING ! ! I am now very leery to read her again, it is a shame. I actually had fantasies of what I could do to let Lisa know how VILE I thought this book was.....setting it on fire and then sending her a picture of it ? ?
I Understand there are bad people in the world..... but, this heavy and disturbing subject matter is just so unlike her writing.
Please tell everyone you know NOT to purchase this book. And if you see a copy just lying in the street.....keep walking!
Wouldn't even give 1 star....had to pick at least 1 to be able to post the review!
Book Review: Well written, but difficult to like Summary: 4 Stars
While the plot is well-paced, the subject matter of child sexual abuse, pornography and kidnapping makes it a difficult book to really like. Still, if you can stomach the difficult subject matter, the book is well written. The only caveat to that is a spectral disturbance at a very dramatic moment that is out of place with the rest of the book. And the worse part is that it is totally unnecessary. The narrator of the book changes frequently from one character to another, and it is not until deep in the book that one can be sure which of the male characters are speaking, and while I found it interesting, others might find it irritating. One thing that I did like was that not every clue panned out. Some at first looked promising but didn't yield much. That seems more like reality to me, but on the whole, the book could have done with a bit less reality.
Book Review: Say Goodbye to Lisa Gardner Summary: 1 Stars
Zero stars. This was the first book I read by Lisa Gardner and it will be the last. She's got a captivating style and can definitely generate thrills with her writing. However, while the evolution of victim to perpetrator was interesting and believable, the child sexual abuse scenes left nothing to the imagination. I'm amazed that the author (a mother of a young child herself) was able to write these scenes with so little emotion. While reading the scenes was horrific, writing the scenes seemed to be just coldly matter-of-fact. In fact, not until the very end of the book did there seem to be just a bit of the author attempting to cast any kind of moral judgement. Seems to me to be another contribution to the normalising of child sexual abuse in this culture. Awful!! I ripped this one up and threw it in with my paper recycling.
