Book Review: If I could turn back time....

Mallory is one year away from making partner at her law firm. She has created a persona to insure she is taken seriously as the only female lawyer in the law firm. To say she dresses down is an understatement. She wears frumpy, shapeless suits, black rimmed glasses that hide her eyes and her hair is pulled back in a tight bun.
Jack is the law firms super successful divorce attorney, known as the terminator. The office secretaries and Mallory all drool over him, it's also well known that he is not a believer in happily ever after. Plus there is a strict no dating other employees rule in the firm. When a potential client summons Jack to his resort so they can discuss his case, the firm feels Mallory would be a good asset to take along.
These two have rarely spoken and have never spent time together. After they reach the resort Jack mentions her cold demeanor, so what does Mallory do, she sends him an invitation that promises him seduction, to prove him wrong.
As a Carly Phillips fan I have to admit to being more than disappointed in this story; there is simply nothing about it that I enjoyed. The dialogue is horrendous; it's one cheesy line after the next, it all felt juvenile and unrealistic. The best of the horrid lines was "he wanted to be the man to plumb her hidden depths." I laughed so hard I was crying! Their chemistry goes from being non existent to being exaggerated and unbelievable.
What I think really went wrong with this story was making the characters fall in love. Carly tried to create a deep and emotional tale out of a shallow office romp. I can understand the whole vacation/office fling. It happens, it's believable. But after a few embraces these two start acting like they have uncovered each others life's secrets. Give me a break. They never shared more than a few personal facts about themselves, yet suddenly they are in love.
The part that really irked me was Mallory has worked so hard to be seen a certain way and then after a stupid comment from a virtual stranger she is willing to throw away all she's worked for to prove a guy wrong. It just wasn't believable. I would have preferred it if she just would have seduced him because she was sexually attracted to him, not making it some childish answer to a challenge, like he double dog dared her.
This is one Carly book I will not be keeping. And for you long time fans that will probably buy this book anyway; this is actually a re-release of a 2001 book titled Erotic Invitation (Midnight Fantasies) (Blaze, 17), so check your shelves before you buy.
