Book Review: Meaningless mystical drivel

After reading so many positive reviews of this book I was looking forward to the enlightening revelations it is purported to give the reader. Unfortunately that is not the case. While many reviewers here like to use the word "complicated" as a disclaimer to explain its shortcomings, the word "irrelevant" would be more accurate.
These studies of esoteric/mystical judaism are based on the false premise that the old testament is dictated from the mouth of God and that every word is in its proper place and nothing can be contradicted since they are the Lord's all powerful words and therefore the Absolute truth.
But, sadly, for any discrimating thinker, one can easily see that the Bible in all its forms has been corrupted over the millenia; how anyone can put their faith into some vague notion that the Bible has retained the "correct" format in wording and spacing, etc is beyond me. (Witness such atrocities as "The Bible Code" books).
Understand that the main past-time of these rabbis is kibitzing over each and every word of the old testament - "Why did God say "Let there be light" instead of "Now there is light.."? and then present a 300 page discertation contrasting "Let" and "Now there is", etc. Personally I find this incredibly boring and of no value whatsoever to spiritual revelation.
The old testament is simply a story book about mass murderers, wars, destruction and death brought on by a wrathful "God" with a few "spiritual highlights" here and there - I am amazed that one would build their whole belief system on out-dated superstition and materialistic ceremonies, i.e "burn a goat until it is nice and crispy but don't let a woman who is unclean touch it and then grind it into dust and throw in on the alter with some warm sheeps blood stewed in brine for 7 days..." Aw c'mon now!
This is a great book to occupy the mind and spend long hours wrangling over vague and ambiguous terms and phrases but ultimately does nothing to advance the reader spiritually. How much longer will our world be hung up on the judeo-christian ethic that has been the cause of more death and destruction than any other factor in modern history?
