Book Reviews of Self Healing Colitis & CrohnsBook Review: It works! Summary: 5 Stars
After suffering from IBS and now IBD for over 30 years, I had a massive flare-up that I didn't think I would survive. My colon had shut down completely. Because I was not living near my own doctor, I rushed to an allopath who immediately put me on a sulfa drug to bring down the swelling. That certainly worked, and I absolutely felt better, but I was not willing to consider taking drugs on a long term basis. I instinctively switched to a Natural Hygiene diet, which also made things easier.
When I finally reached my own doctor, he directed me to David Klein. I was encouraged to see that David advocated a Natural Hygiene diet as the way to both relieve the symptoms and cure colitis and Crohn's. I was also encouraged because I have been trying unsuccessfully to switch to a raw vegan diet, and here was my chance.
I have been studying David's book and eating the recommended diet for about 12 days now. Literally within a couple of days, a sense of physical well-being spread through my whole abdominal area, as if my body was thanking me for the food it was receiving. My taste buds were in complete agreement -- the food also tasted delicious.
This is not an easy diet to follow, however. Whenever I cheat and eat something that is NOT recommended, or if I combine foods improperly, I pay for it instantly with painful cramping. It's depressing to think I can't eat the way I want. But this diet gave me instant proof that it works.
Book Review: Vegan diet for ulcerative colitis Summary: 5 Stars
This book is great help to induce and prolong remission. It is a very strict diet focusing on raw fruits and vegetables, but it has helped me reduce my meds and taper off the prednisone completely.
