Book Reviews of Serpent of Light: Beyond 2012 - The Movement of the Earth's Kundalini and the Rise of the Female Light, 1949 to 2013Book Review: PSEUDO SPIRITUAL JUNK FOOD Summary: 1 Stars
This is an author who knows how to give the people what they want, and fortunately for him, there's no shortage of people hungering for a fat serving of pseudo-spiritual junk food. He seems to have hit on a real good recipe for it too. It goes something like this: Take some dabbling in Native American ways...or any old indigenous peoples will do, mix in some grandiose claims such as: `As a Native American in a white body, I have followed the indigenous ways, as they have shown me the secret to creation', throw in occasional references to Jesus and the Buddha, sprinkle in liberal amounts of kooky sci-fi, along with lots of 2012 mumbo-jumbo, stuff it with outlandish so-called `spiritual' experiences, then wrap it all up in lots of feel-good `live from the heart' blather. Half bake it at mediocre heat and wahlah! There you have it, another `drunvalo' book!
Just what does he mean anyway, by 'I have followed the indigenous ways'??? How closely can a white dude raking in the bucks with everything from Web-based business interests, lucrative 'spiritual' travel/adventure/workshops, books & whatever else he has his hands in, 'follow the indigenous ways'? How do you imagine a Native American might feel about this obnoxious claim? Does he care? Has he joined the indigenous ones to live on a reservation in poverty and deprivation? Does he live in a tepee, hunt his own food and make his own weapons & clothes; or does he live way too comfortably in a well-to-do community enjoying every modern convenience his bountiful (I can assure you) income will allow? Where in all of this may we ask, are the indigenous ways being followed? Do you need a hint? Can you say cheap, transparent, unscrupulous, ignorant and insulting claims?
What say we try a sample of the aforementioned recipe, shall we? It's tasty stuff, I'm sure: `Jesus could not have walked on water unless his third eye was opened and the eight beams of light coming from the pineal chakra extended past the surface of his head. It's simply a cosmic fact.' Deelicious Mr. `drunvalo', may we have s'more? What level of discernment does it take to recognize rubbish as rubbish?
So Mr. `drunvalo' knows the `secret to creation', huh? Wanna bet he's selling it too? Wanna bet you can have some of it for a price? Why, I just bet the dishing out of little servings and samples of 'the secret' keeps Mr. d's pocketbook satisfyingly full. Must be a great gig no, learn the secret to creation itself and then make a living peddling it to other poor souls? Would you think it really works like that? A man learns the secret to all creation, and then develops his entrepreneurial skills and business model, charging for access to the very key to life? Is it REALLY so hard to see through this stuff? Does it really seem to carry a shred of credibility? If so, it speaks terribly ill of our collective intelligence and level of understanding.
His other books offer lots of charts and diagrams and attempts at sophisticated and technical sounding formulations and instructions. To be taken in by this stuff is to be very much lost and misguided, and to be as yet lacking the realization that finding the deepest truth doesn't require diagrams, difficult concepts or lofty ideas. That's obviously not a message very many want to hear however.
Maybe there's nothing wrong with this. Some people crave it. But then again, a lot of people crave cigarettes and junk food, and are cigarettes and junk food good for anyone other than those who sell them? A lot of people have a real appetite for cheap fiction too, and there's nothing wrong with this. But at least cheap fiction doesn't claim to be other than it is. It doesn't claim to be saving mother earth and keeping the universe in balance. It doesn't claim to be the answer to mundane life and its apparent problems. Is there then, not a sense in which human weakness and naiveté are being exploited and even preyed upon here? Ah well, the role of the charlatan is nothing new to this world. Perhaps he believes it all himself. My sense is, it's a mixture of both. The guy is pretty nutty to begin with, and he's found a cash cow that enables him to make a good living telling tales and playing the role. Why not cash in on it, right? One need only look to James Arthur Ray however, for a recent example of this sort of persona run amuck. Apparently Mr. d is a good deal less extreme however. He knows how to stay within the lines and keep his cottage industry running safely within the bounds of relatively innocuous foolishness. To each his own, so bon appetit!
Summary of Serpent of Light: Beyond 2012 - The Movement of the Earth's Kundalini and the Rise of the Female Light, 1949 to 2013Every 13,000 years on Earth a sacred and secret event takes place that changes everything. Mother Earth's Kundalini energy emerges from its resting place in the planet's core and moves like a snake across the surface of our world. Once at home in ancient Lemuria, it moved to Atlantis, then to the Himalayan mountains of India and Tibet, and with every relocation changed our idea of what spiritual means. And gender. And heart. This time, with much difficulty, the Serpent of Light has moved to the Andes Mountains of Chile and Peru. Multi-dimensional, multi-disciplined, and multi-lived, for the first time in this book, Drunvalo begins to tell his stories of 35 years spent in service to Mother Earth. Follow him around the world as he follows the guidance of Ascended Masters, his two spheres of light, and his own inner growing knowledge. His story is a living string of ceremonies to help heal hearts, align energies, right ancient imbalances, and balance the living Earth's Unity Consciousness Grid-- in short to increase our awareness of the indivisibility of life in the universe. We are all--rocks and people and interdimensional beings--one! "Life may seem to be business as usual, but it is not. We are changing fast . . . Remember this for life is going to present stranger things to you in your lifetime, and they all have meaning and purpose . . .Only Mother Earth and ancient Maya know what's going to happen." --from Serpent of Light * Part travel adventure, part spiritual instruction--a firsthand account of a once in 13,000 years process. * Drunvalo Melchizedek has a story to tell--an adventure story, a story of healing ceremonies that take place from the Yucatan to Kauai and Moorea to the Grand Canyon and New Zealand and to Peru. * See what can happen when we choose to open our hearts and follow the path of light.
