Book Review: "Depilation and dilapidation"

That phrase, taken from the book's introduction, captures much of what this collection offers. The charming women (and one man) appear in their more-than-bare glory, in various scenes around Lorenz's home in the former East Germany. Some photos capture model against industrial decay. Others contrast young, vital curves against blocky, brooding architecture from decades or centuries gone by. Yet others pose the figure in a snowy forest, as if not even freezing weather and falling snow could dampen her inner warmth.
These aren't the artiest figure photos. Lots of the poses seem chosen only to show that the model's grooming qualifies her for this collection. A playful sense comes through continuously, though. Urban scenes, even when no one else is visible, give an exhibitionist/voyeurist thrill. Others have a "Candid Camera" kind to humor, where the model encounters cross-country skiers or two old guys walking their dogs in the snow.
Each model projects a unique personality, within the confines of the book's format. I like that - it makes her more real, not just a prop for acting out the photographer's fantasies. Also, a few have rounder tummies than "perfection" would dictate, or breasts that hang lower than "ideal." I like that, too: the beauty of real women doesn't get nearly enough attention. This won't be the most erotic or elegant set of images in your library, but it's fun.
