Book Review: How is this appropriate?

Why is it considered appropriate for a children's book title to be a pun on the word "S**T"? I am a dog lover, librarian, and from a bilingual family, so I GET IT! I know what a Shih Tzu is, that "caca" is Spanish for poop, that mixed breeds with poodle bloodlines are called whatever-a-poos. I even have a sense of humor--puns on poop--the height of cleverness and literary achievement. <sarcasm>
No matter the message of Behar's book, it is overshadowed by excretory "humor" that is not appropriate especially considering all of the other excellent children's books available instead of this. Imagine yourself a) reading this with your child and explaining why the title is so "funny," b) being a librarian or teacher and recommending this book by name to a child and their parent. So not going to happen. . .

Comedian and talk-show host Joy Behar has teamed up with illustrator Gene Barretta to create a feisty, lovable character in this cheerful, funny picture book. When Max the mixed-breed meets a pack of snobby purebred dogs in the dog run, he can't understand why they don't want to play with him and his mongrel friends. Determined to get everyone to play together, brainy Max?who is part poodle, after all?comes up with a way to break the ice between the mixed-breeds and the purebreds. America's current obsession with designer dogs makes this book as timely as it is lively.
