Book Reviews of Shopgirl: A Novella

Book Review: It's definitely no, "The Jerk"
Summary: 5 Stars

I accidentally saw the film before, but when I did read the novella, it didn't feel spoiled. I wasn't a big Steve Martin fan but his literature is so much more beautiful than one might expect. The story is touching without ever feeling the slightest bit cheesy. Martin is such a clever guy. Shopgirl is beautiful, sad, and humorous and I doubt you'll only read it once.

Book Review: Not what you would expect!
Summary: 5 Stars

Steve Martin's writing is simply intoxicating. He pulls you into the story with characters that you could believe and understand. This story focuses on almost a late coming of age story of a young woman named Mirabelle who searches for acceptance and love, yet within that process finds herself. It is beautifully written and not what you expect from comedian Martin.

Book Review: Wonderful
Summary: 4 Stars

I loved this book, in fact I bought it and gave it as a gift. Steve Martin does a wonderful job, he is a gifted writer. He was very accurate talking about the ambiance and situations at the store. I worked retail years ago and it brough back lots of memories. The details throughout the book were very good.

I cannot wait to read his new book.

Book Review: A wistful gem
Summary: 5 Stars

I had no expectations, a female friend despised this book...

But I loved it. It's contained story reveals the hearts of it's characters very well. Subtle and heartbreaking at times.

Two likes that don't wind up together. Understanding trumps love.
Very well done.

Book Review: Eh....
Summary: 3 Stars

This compact little novella is filled with characters who are unrealistic and hard to relate to. We are wound through a strange maze of emotions and motives and finally drawn to an unsatisfying conclusion. I've read much better, and I'm sure you have too.
