Book Reviews of Simply In Season/Out of Print (World Community Cookbook)

Book Review: nice quality
Summary: 4 Stars

Nicely done book. The book is broke down into four seasons. Each season has a list of vegetables along the outside edge on each page with the particular vegetable(s) used as ingredients in that recipe highlighted on that page. It makes it easy, for example, if you have broccoli and want some ideas on how to use it, flip the pages until you see broccoli highlighted and then read the recipe to see if if it something you are interested in. The recipes I have tried have been good.
A few more recipes with unusual vegetables would have been good because those are the ones I don't know what to do with. But over all a nice book. I would give it 4.5 stars.

Book Review: My # 1 Cookbook!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent cookbook for anyone who cares about good food, health, the environment, and who wants to eat more locally-grown foods. It is arranged by season, with the main seasonal ingredients listed down the side of the page, and is VERY useable! If you find yourself with an abundance of tomatoes, say, you can easily find (in the summer section) all of the recipes that use tomato asa main ingredient. All the recipes I've tried have been very tasty, and not labor intensive. I also enjoy the little blurbs on different pages about sustainability and good stewardship of the earth.

Book Review: Wonderful!

I received this cookbook in December 05. It is now Spring, 07 and I have cooked my way through it. I love it. This book has given me so much more confidence in my cooking abilities. I don't fret when friends come over for dinner because I know I have my SIS Cookbook in hand.

The recipes are simple, easy to prepare with not a lot of ingredients. Typically, they are pretty quick to put togehter. I love that they use in season ingredients and that they are healthy recipes.

The Maple Parsnip Soup and Red Lentil Coconut Curry are two of our favorites! Enjoy!

Book Review: horrible recipes
Summary: 1 Stars

While I love the idea of this book and am very into eating/cooking simply and with seasonal ingredients, I have thus far made three recipes from the cookbook and 2 of the 3 were so bad that I threw them in the trash (which pained me to no end...that's just *not* something I do)! It makes me wonder if the recipes were tested before they were printed or what. I'm curious if others have had any problems!? (By the way, I am an experienced cook and usually do not have issues with dishes not turning out.) Sadly, I have to rate this cookbook as Simply Terrible.

Book Review: What a treasure!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my new favorite !!! cookbook. I really wanted a cookbook that would help me use fruits and vegetables that are in season. Out of about 20-30 recipes that I've tried from this cookbook, I've loved all but about 2 of them which is pretty good I think. One of the pluses is that the recipes are generally naturally low in fat and in salt. I would give this cookbook the highest recommendation I can! It's even better than More with Less and Extending the Table (the other two World Community Cookbooks).
