Book Reviews of Skeletons at the Feast: A Novel

Book Review: Historical Fiction at the best
Summary: 5 Stars

AUDIO BOOK VERSION- I listened to the audio book (unabridged) version of this wonderful story. As a historical fiction fan, I enjoy many different time periods. After finishing "The Book Thief" I wanted another WW2 genre, and tried the "Zookeepers Wife" and did not like that, and moved onto this one. This book was haunting, the life of Uri a Jew masquerading as a Nazi, the Polish/German people that were unaware and naive to what their own countrymen were doing, and caught in the middle of the war, with Russia (Ivan) and moving west, and Cecile- a french jewish work camp survivor with hope that never gives up. All of these wonderful stories wonderful intercept. A great great read.

Book Review: The strength and determination to survive
Summary: 5 Stars

This book gives the reader the true perspective of people's struggle to survive the unspeakable. Just leave your home on a cold day and think what it would be like to flee for months on foot with what you have on your back. Can you do that. The characters in this book did. What took place in 'Skeletons at the Feast' is what many many people truly lived. Think about the survival instincts of the human spirit who were captured and force to cross the land. After reading this book; I can't believe how anyone survived the war or any war. It should be required reading in middle or high school. Skeletons at the Feast is written beautifully and is a page turner.

Book Review: a new view of ww 2
Summary: 5 Stars

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF CHRIS BOHJALIAN FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND MY APPRECIATION FOR HIS WORK HAS ONLY INCREASED AFTER READING THIS BOOK.MOST OF US IN THE USA HAVE A VERY LIMITED VIEW OF WHAT THE WAR IN EUROPE MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR THE CIVILIAN POPULATION.MY WIFE WAS BORN IN GERMANY IN 1941 SO SHE HAS SOME MEMORIES OF THE TIME BUT FORTUNATELY HER FAMILY DID NOT HAVE TO EXPERIENCE WHAT THESE REFUGEES DID.
THE AUTHOR DOES A MASTERFUL JOB AT TAKING ME TO A TIME AND PLACE THAT NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO EXPERIENCE.HE ALSO GIVES HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.IT IS ALMOST UNBELEIVABLE WHAT HUMAN NATURE CAN ENDURE.

Book Review: WWII Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

This book had me riveted from the first to the last page. The author has created a masterpiece of Holocaust literature that so vividly shows the horrors of war, the repercussions of war, the unexpected casualties of war. I love how the author showed the differing prespectives of the characters. The author really dealt a blow to war and explored WWII in a new and insightful way. I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to anyone with a conscience. What's incredibly sad is the day I finished reading the book, a Neo-Nazi group held a rally in downtown Los Angeles. Will we ever learn?

Book Review: World War II Romance--the German-Russian War
Summary: 4 Stars

This novel presents the deprivations of war from the perspective of a German family who become refugees as the end of World War II as their property is overtaken first by Russians, then by Germans. At its core is a passionate romance between a Scottish POW and the (not-quite-yet-grownup) daughter of the household. All ends well as the closing chapters reveal. The POW and the daughter marry and raise a son. The mother survives the war and settles in the heart of Germany. The novel is tight and well written. It keeps the suspense going to the end.
