Book Review: Good stuff.

After a Cachet sketchbook disintegrated on me, it was time for another brand.
I checked out what the peeps on Amazon thought and ordered this one.
It'd been almost a year. It was time to get another sketchbook. Having forgotten the trials of the Cachet and the hunt for a better sketchbook, I picked one up at a local art store--a Canson. I opened it last night and immediately noticed the difference. The paper was not as white. The tooth not what I had gotten used too. Quick detective work, and I ordered this one again (3, actually). I used to be a Canson Man. Now it's Watson Guptill for me.
I've thrown all medias at it, and it has held up nicely. Very little bleed through with markers and nice handling of wet media. It's NOT water color paper weight, but it's good enough. I've gotten spoiled with the way my red pencil--my primary sketching tool--works on the paper.
Thumbs up to Watson Guptill. Keep making this book. It rocks.
Book Review: A Great Sketchbook

One of if not the best sketch books I have ever owned! I've been buying sketch books since 1976 when I had my first Basic drawing class as an undergraduate. This sketchbook is durable, portable and is excellent for pen, pencil, charcol or pastel. There is plenty of pages for drawing, note-taking and composition. I have found myself sometimes using two pages to make a complete composition because this books allows such compositions because it is more book-like. A great gift for a person interested in greating a graphic novel or anyone else who want to draw everyday; a most indispensible tool for an artist, illustrator or planner.Book Review: Nice sketchbook!

This is a reasonable price at about $9.00. It qualifies for free shipping, which is nice.
The pH neutral pages are supposed to never turn yellow, so that's the best thing about the sketchbook. I have a few artist sketches in my book and an artist commented that it was a really nice sketchbook. As the prior review mentioned, I'm not sure about the book binding, but hope it will last for many years. I'm not sure about the number of pages 176 or 224, but it would be nice if it was shown on the sketchbook cover. All in all, I like it.

I'm personally not a designer or artist... but I got this book as a gift for someone who is an artist. I was surprised at the quality of the book when it arrived for the price. Seems like an amazing value to me! Once it was given to the artist who it was intended for, she absolutely loved it and said it's the best sketchbook she's gotten in a long time... and she seemed even more fond of it than the prismacolor markers I gave her with them! I work as a research scientist and have begun to use these as my standard lab notebooks. They're very durable, as compared to other books of similar style (black cover, blank pages) I've had in the past, which have had bindings that loosen, and pages that yellow. The paper quality is also very pleasant to write on -- and there are 180 pages, not 176 as some reviews say. Putting in an order for another year's worth right now.
