Book Reviews of SlashBook Review: Great Read! Summary: 5 Stars
It's a captivating in depth look at how lucky on many different levels Slash has been to date. I enjoyed reading this book and I appreciated his candor, but it left me wondering just how great GNR could have become if not for their excesses in not only substance abuse and outlandish behavior, but lavish spending on meaningless items in order to appease one member of the band.
It also makes me pause and wonder if what Slash is true about that members manic behavior and self centerdness, how that prevented them from reaching even greater heights still?
Get this book, it's at the very least entertaining.
Book Review: I am currently reading the book Summary: 5 Stars
There are some good stories in this book, and pages 90-91 are worth the price of the book alone. I was up reading this late at night, and I was crying I was laughing so hard at the story being told. It is fun to read behind the scene stories of what my favorite band was up to back in the day. I was a little kid in the 80s and I've been a Guns n' Roses fan since day 2 when I first heard them. So far I love the book. I bought Chinese Democracy last weekend (yay! - on vinyl) and Slash this past weekend...all I need is a full out reunion to make me completely satisfied. Come on boys!
Book Review: I can't really recommend it but it's not horrible either ... Summary: 3 Stars
As far as Rock n' Roll bios goes this one is typically mediocre ... engaging in a few parts but mostly full of RnR cliches - hot and cold running strippers, on and off heroin, in and out if rehab, trashing hotel rooms, and feuding with band mates ... ad infinitum. I've seen interviews with Slash and he comes across as a fairly intelligent person ... in this book he comes off like a third grader. It doesn't help that it's poorly written ... like it might be a first draft.
If you want to read an unique and engaging rock bio get Keith Richard's Life ... fabulous.
Book Review: Absolute excessive Summary: 4 Stars
Being almost the same age as Slash and wanting to be a rocker in the mid eighties I got a big kick out of this book. The life story of this guy is awesome, except from the health problems associated with drug abuse. Slash definitely lived hard and rocked hard all of his life, while I sit here being a Service Manager for a broadcast/motion picture lens company. Oh well, someone has to do it and I can keep dreaming of being a rocker.
Great book but maybe 100 pages too long, it does carry on for a little too much in certain parts.
Book Review: This book has no hook... Summary: 2 Stars
I've wanted to read this book for quite some time. I thought it more a collection of loosely strung short stories that lacked the detail to hold my interest. C'mon Slash...it seems like you're pandering Axl in this book. Either he is or he isn't...its always an opinion supported by actions...it's almost like you're afraid of him. Anyways...I give it a 2 and wouldn't recommend buying it. If a friend of yours has a copy kicking around and you're out of good books then give it a read. Maybe you'll like it; but I doubt it.
