Book Reviews of Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changelings, Book 1)Book Review: Sascha and Lucas Summary: 5 Stars
Sascha is Psy, a group of unfeeling beings that survive by a mental link to each other. As Sascha has grown older she has realized she is not quite like the other Psy, for some reason she feels emotions, but she has learned to hide them well...or else face the punishment of the Psy community. When she is assigned to work with Lucas on a building project she finds all of her hard earned control may have been for nothing.
Lucas is a changeling, a race of beings that can transform into animals, in his case a panther. As the alpha of his pack its his responsibility to find the being responsible for the murder of several changeling women in his area. When they realize the killer is a Psy Lucas is determined to do whatever is necessary with Sascha to uncover the psychopath.
***This book was well written with a great plot. The author has a huge imagination to create a world like this and to keep it consistant. Lucas and Sascha really steam up the pages, Lucas is a perfect match for Sascha...bringing her out of her cold world and into a world with warmth and passion. I recommend this book and will be checking out the next in this series.
Book Review: New Twist Paranormal Summary: 5 Stars
This book opens a new series that puts a new twist on the psychic/shapeshifter paranormal romance theme. Lucas is a great Alpha male, in more ways than one. Sascha is his perfect mate, tho she believes the message her Society sends: she's flawed and imperfect and worse than dead if she can't keep hiding her "flaw."
The shapeshifters here are Leopards and Wolves and they refer to themselves as Changelings rather than were-this or were-that. Sascha's Psy are a race that pride themselves on emotionless, sterile, wholely mental existences imposed by their childhood indoctrination into the Silence, so Love is simply not on their radar as anything but a flaw to exploit in others.
The relationship that builds between Sascha and Lucas is well developed here and the supporting characters are well-drawn and believable. It's an excellent book on its own as well as being a good foundation for the books that have followed it. No infodumps here, everything flows well.
This was a very satisfying romance. I liked the story and the characters and I even enjoy the count-the-days-waiting until the next installment comes out.
Book Review: A wonderful surprise! Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated in buying this book. While I normally read time-travel, paranormal romance, I simply couldn't see how a science fiction wolf book could work. (Yes, I know they are out there but I simply don't enjoy them.) I enjoy Sci Fi but I usually want to separate it from romance. First, if you are now or have ever been a Sci-Fi nut AND a romance genre person, you will REALLY enjoy this book. I found myself caught in the intricasies of Singh's description of the Psy Net she has created here. If you enjoy Feehan or J.R. Ward then this is probably right up your alley. The female isn't quite strong enough for me, but then I'm not a sweet young thing myself anymore and I want my characters to have alot more spine then women in the romance genre generally have. But again, What a great writer! This is no throw-down romance. You'll think while you read it and hey, the sex is great! :-) In a sea of average books out there, most of which I've read and not been able to finish, this is really a find. I'm off to pick up the next two in the series and from me, ever determined not to spend more money on books, that is a real compliment!
Book Review: Strange, different, confusing....but good! Summary: 4 Stars
Wow! As a very new reader to the paranormal genre (thanks the the Black Dagger Brotherhood series!) this book was very different to the stuff I normally read.
The world in which Singh introduces us is very complicated, intense, and unique. The battlefield is the mind, and this talented author takes you there. This world includes humans, changelings (individuals that can change between human and animal form), and Psy's (those with psychic abilities). Psy's have undergone Silencing which has programmed them to "feel nothing", but the heroine feels much...especially for the alpha male Lucas.
This was a good book. I would recommend it. The only thing I have to say is to take your time reading it. It is very complicated in that it is introducing you to a new world using new names, phrases, and ideas. I feel like I need to read it again to understand the intricacies of it. The romance is really good and Lucas really loves Sascha with a huge amount of intensity. It really is touching. I look forward to Hawke's book. I hope he gets one!
Book Review: Great Story Summary: 5 Stars
Enough reviewers have posted about the plot, so I won't repeat that. I read a wide variety of romance novels, from historical to paranormal. On the paranormal end I am fans of J.R. Ward (though not initially due to the odd linguistics for hundred year old vampires -- but the books have grown increasingly better and the last was fantastic), Sherrilyn Kenyon (I was a huge fan of the Dark Hunter series until recently; the last two books have been disappointing); Christine Feehan (I was a big Carpathian fan until the stories in recent years -- I'm getting tired of essentially the same male/female characters, dialogue, etc.); and Marjorie Liu. I finished Ms. Singh's Slave to Sensation last night and I am eager for more! The characters were believable, the chemistry was great, and the world Ms. Singh introduced is intriguing. I am reminded of the excitement I felt with I first discovered Kenyon, Feehan, et al. -- I just hope the author continues to give us creative plots, intriguing and multi-dimentional characters, etc. I cannot wait to see more of this new world.
