Book Review: Fun but not fun enough

Okay, I feel bad writing this however, I have to be honest. I am obsessed with everything Mer so I bought and read the first book feeling from the beginning that the literature is extremely harsh and the character, Fred, is such a bitch with the personality of a stinky diaper. The reason I finished the book and went on to purchase and read the second is because I just love reading anything Mer and the author describes the Mermaid tales and the MerWorld even though I have read much better renditions of MerLand in other novels. I kept reading only because of my love for Mer stories, however after the second book I am thoroughly disgusted with Fred's attitude and don't want to read the third book :o( I wish the author could have made Fred more amicable. If she did I would love to read the third book. Hey even popcorn novels can be fun, quick reads.
Summary of Sleeping with the Fishes (Fred the Mermaid, Book 1)
Fred is not your ordinary mermaid. She's not blonde. She's not buxom. And she's definitely not perky. In fact, Fred can be downright cranky. And it doesn't help matters that her hair is blue.While volunteering at the New England Aquarium, Fred learns that there are weird levels of toxins in the local seawater. A gorgeous marine biologist wants her help investigating. So does her merperson ruler, the High Prince of the Black Sea. You'd think it would be easy for a mermaid to get to the bottom of things. Think again.
