Book Review: Covers almost everything, written for almost everyone

I am a recent inductee into the world of BDSM, and like many, I was terrified. This book was one of the most valuable pieces I could have picked up.
The topic of BDSM was treated with fairness and a desire to educate in this book. The practices in SM are usually dangerous. This book was written from the standpoint that too many people practice in an unsafe manner, both emotionally and physically. There were hundreds of safety tips listed, from meeting a potential play partner for the first time to how to get out of situation once it goes very wrong. The author is a former paramedic, with healthy ties remaining to the medical community, so safety was the continuing theme throughout the book.
Also, the author gave valuable insight on various topics such as how to "come out" to people if you choose, and how to broach the subject to partners that you already have.
I would say that this book is an excellent resource for both beginners, and those who could be considered virtuosos, and for every orientation. Though the writer is a heterosexual male, he has done his research so that the information is applicable to those who aren't heterosexual, or male. Everyone can learn something from this book--from what to look for, and what to stay away from. I particularly enjoyed the section toward the back that included a list of techniques for those who want to do a scene, and don't have any idea where to start. There is also a list of websites, other books, and organizations to contact in areas around the country for those who do choose to take that step.
I would, and have, recommend this book to anyone who was interested in the topic, but didn't know where to start, or was concerned that there was something disturbed about them for their interest in it. (In fact, I've personally bought at least 5 copies. I keep loaning it out, and never getting it back!)
