Book Review: Old, but not outdated!

This is a very complete instruction manual on how a large army should operate for maximium affect when occupying another country. The book is published in the 1940's, but contains the same elemental truths of today's small wars. If soldiers headed for Iraq or Afghanistan don't already read a newer version of this book, then they should read this edition. I find it interesting that this information would have been provided to Vietnam era U.S. soldiers, yet by historical accounts nearly all of it's valuable lesson were ignored.

Originally published in 1940 by the U.S. Marine Corps, this book examines the practical and philosophical aspects of low-intensity conflicts, which were then referred to as ?Small Wars.? This is one of the best books on military peacekeeping and counterinsurgency operations published before World War II. As an historical artifact, it offers insight to a rarely seen and often overlooked period in American history. Topics include strategy, psychology, dealings with foreign civilians, as well as implementation of a democratically-elected government.
