Book Reviews of Speed CleaningBook Review: Amazing...Outdated? Summary: 5 Stars
I recently started a housekeeping business, and I needed some more information about how to shorten my cleaning times. I got this book a week or two ago, and already I am seeing vast improvements in my times. This book gives you a bulleted list and description of every single move you need to make in order to get your home to look spotless, but not take the whole weekend. I feel like this book will continue to be something I carry with me when I clean homes.
However, I think it may need to be updated... terry cloths or cloth diapers instead of micro-fiber towels, etc. These are just petty things, but they would help people that aren't up-to-date with cleaning.
Book Review: how to do what you hate: the conflicted approach to cleaning Summary: 1 Stars
This author encourages his readers to remain (or become) conflicted about house-cleaning. He teaches them how to avoid it and makes repeated references to what you would rather be doing. It's the adolescent approach to doing something that requires effort. You will read nothing about the value of housework and the positive feeling doing something well can give. You, in fact, will not learn how to do anything well at all from the author as his emphasis is on speed without quality. He actually encourages readers to clean only the dirt they see! I can find no use for this book at all. I think I'm going to clean it up. Where's the garbage?
Book Review: Purchasing my second copy Summary: 5 Stars
I am buying my second copy today. I teach high school and years ago my copy was loaned to our consumer education instuctor. I have not seen it since, but my high school students have! It is part of their curriculum for their "Independent Living" class. Face it, if our generation wasn't taught to clean very well, I can tell you that the kids coming up are clueless. I teach band, but I find myself teaching how to hang clothes 101 and beginning laundry skills...I digress. Yes, the author sounds a bit "self-rightous" at times, but it is humorous. Any clean freak is bound to be a bit retentive! Just copy his methods and not his persona.
Book Review: A home cleaning classic I keep coming back to!! Summary: 5 Stars
I discovered The Clean Team almost 10 years ago. Their philosophy and approach to house cleaning is only surpassed by their tools and products. This book gives a great plan for organizing your house cleaning tools and tasks. Even for those rare types who enjoy cleaning, there is always room to make the job more effective and rewarding. Yeah, I get lazy sometimes and stray from The Clean Team methods and tools, but I keep coming back to it when I really need to shape up my house. In particular, the Shmop is nearly life-changing...really takes the mess out of mopping! I heartily recommend SPEED CLEANING. HAPPY CLEANING!
Book Review: what a silly book Summary: 1 Stars
I got this book because of the positive reviews and was disappointed. The first speedy suggestion is a custom made apron (which you order from the authors, of course) to help you carry your cleaning tools. Heavy bottles full of cleaner, tools, rags, etc., are supposed to hang from your waist and not be in the way while you whiz through each room. There are some interesting tips on getting organized and suggestions about cleaning things you would have never thought about cleaning, but there is nothing speedy about their methods. The book wore me out just reading it and my house is still a mess.
