Spiritual Liberation it is an insightful and inspiring message to participate in our personal and collective evolution, guiding us through inner blocks and resistance that keeps our infinite capacity from freely flowing through us. And once there is movement within our consciousness, then we can begin to focus on possibilities, openings, and answers. What works well in this book in particular is how the author reveals his own spiritual maturing: not so much directly, but in the way he interprets spirituality and how he lives from this perspective of possibilities in everyday life.
"What is Spirit's highest vision for my life?" is one question that author Michael Beckwith encourages us to ask, and to refine our ability to receive the answer through our intuitive channels. His spirit's highest vision may have been founding the Agape Spiritual Center in the late 80s, and carrying on the fine tradition of beloved community that theologians and educators Howard Thurman and Martin Luther King Jr. invoked. And, although Spiritual Liberation is not a book about the Agape center, clearly this is the foundation that nourishes Beckwith's personal path of service. For as with all spiritual seekers who accept that their inner purpose is to awaken, awakening inherently means that we perceive ourselves in a larger context and community--socially, spiritually, and psychologically.
In truth, there is nothing in this book that hasn't been written or said a thousand times before, in many ways. Since Beckwith himself makes this point, and draws from key historical and contemporary spiritual teachers to illuminate his own conceptualizations of the infinite, this is simply an observation and not a criticism. And, a reminder that sometimes we have to hear things many times, in many ways, before they take hold and displace calcified habits of thinking. As a result, Spiritual Liberation is not only worth reading, there are moments of deep appreciation for the author's eloquence, or the way he holds an idea up to a certain light for a closer look.
Spiritual Liberation is elegant and straightforward, oozing a world-centric paradigm and heart-based wisdom: we can "feel" the author's profound commitment to Truth and are upheld within that field. Vicariously, we experience our own spiritual nature. In this regard, the book is highly successful--it is a gift of the highest order when an author can induce a multi-dimensional experience through a two-dimensional media.
Spiritual Liberation is accompanied by a CD--"Live at Agape"--a musical celebration of spiritual and heart-based community.
